Chapter 290

In the next moment, a delicate, pale fingertip gently lifted her chin. Hu Yuying's finger traced from her chin to her cheek. "Call me 'sister' again."

"Sister." Lin Wanning's cool little face flushed a shade of red, and even her eyes glistened with a hint of moisture.

"Once the house is renovated, you can move in," Hu Yuying said softly, glancing at the nearly finished main house.

In fact, the master bedroom was almost done, and soon they would be shopping for furniture.

By the time winter arrived, all the renovations would be complete.

This would be their home.

"Okay," Lin Wanning replied softly.

The three of them had previously agreed to move in together once the renovations were finished, but after what had happened, Lin Wanning felt too embarrassed to bring it up again.

Li Qingxue sighed inwardly.

Yuying still had no idea what was going on; it seemed she had to take action soon.

She needed to put Long Aotian in his place and guide him back onto the right path, taking on all the consequences herself to bring this to an end.

With that thought, Li Qingxue glanced at Long Aotian, rolling her eyes in frustration.

No matter the circumstances, a girl's honor and purity were of utmost importance. Anyone who took away a girl's innocence, regardless of the reason, had to take responsibility.

She hoped that by stepping in, she could help Long Aotian find his way back.

Long Aotian, who had already been excluded by the three girls, felt confused when Li Qingxue shot him a glare.

But seeing the three girls standing together, he sighed. Whatever, a glare was just a glare.

Because of Wanning, his standing at home had plummeted.

If he angered Yuying, he would definitely be sleeping on the couch tonight.

At least it was getting dark early now.

After Lin Wanning and Li Qingxue left, Long Aotian quickly shut the door and returned to the little girl.

He sat down beside her on the bench, watching her quietly.

"It's cold; let's go back to the room," he said.

Hu Yuying shot him a glare. "Not going back."

Seeing the little girl still sulking, Long Aotian asked softly, trying to appease her, "What would it take for you to go back?"

"You have to say you're a big fool," Hu Yuying replied quietly.

"What?"

Not satisfied with that answer, Hu Yuying turned her head away, feigning innocence. "I just won't go back."

Long Aotian, feeling helpless, gritted his teeth. "Fine, I'm a big fool."

"Hmph, that's not enough. You need to say Long Aotian is a big fool," she insisted, her little pride making him both amused and exasperated.

Finally, he simply scooped her up in his arms.

Caught off guard, Hu Yuying instinctively wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Back to the room to sleep."

"But it's only six o'clock! I don't want to sleep!" Hu Yuying protested.

Long Aotian grinned mischievously at the girl in his arms. "Are you scared?"

Earlier that morning, Hu Yuying had been so proactive that he almost lost his resolve; she must have been feeling quite bold.

Hu Yuying scoffed. "Who’s scared? The books say only the exhausted cow..."

As she spoke, she pinched Long Aotian's cheek. "I suggest you tone it down a bit. Stop thinking about those things. I haven't truly forgiven you yet."

"Then I'll find a way to make you forgive me." With that, he kicked the door shut behind them, and suddenly, the world outside seemed to fall silent.

As he reached the bed, he tried to set her down, but she clung to his neck, refusing to let go.

Long Aotian chuckled softly. "What’s wrong? Shouldn't you say Long Aotian is a big fool before you let go?"

He knew he was teasing her about what had just happened.

Hu Yuying, still fuming, clung to his neck tighter. "I’m not letting go."

"This time, I won’t let you have your way so easily!"

In truth, she had already forgiven Long Aotian; she was just being stubborn.

Long Aotian knew this well. He was more than willing to indulge his little girl, even if it meant doing so for a lifetime.

So he lowered his voice, leaning close to her ear, and whispered, "Looks like my little girl really enjoys this position."

Hu Yuying suddenly recalled being swept up in his arms earlier...

She felt a mix of embarrassment and anger.

She had genuinely forgiven him, but because of that comment, she decided to hold off on it for now.

Suddenly feeling his mischievous hand, Hu Yuying quickly released her grip and jumped onto the bed.

She promptly used a pillow to draw an imaginary line down the middle.

"Don’t cross the line." With that, she turned her back to him.

But Long Aotian swiftly snatched the pillow away and pulled her into his embrace.

She struggled for a moment.

Then Long Aotian suddenly exclaimed, "Ouch!"

At that, Hu Yuying panicked and turned to look at him...

To her surprise, Long Aotian was completely fine, grinning at her with a triumphant smile.

At that moment, she realized just how mischievous he was, having tricked her again.

Long Aotian smiled, gently caressing her cheek. "You care about me; that instinctive concern is hard to hide."

"I’m not concerned about you."

He wrapped his arms around Hu Yuying, burying his head in her neck, his voice thick with emotion, like a girl on the verge of tears. "Ah Ying."

For a moment, Hu Yuying stopped struggling and let him hold her, breathing in the air around her neck.

His heavy breaths tickled her skin, sending shivers down her spine.

She gently placed her hand on the back of his head. "I just hope you always put me first."

"You always are. From now on, I’ll only prioritize you."

"You're such a big fool, a big fool..."

"Yes, I’m a big fool who always makes my little girl angry, always makes her cry."

"But this big fool will always put you first. I hope you can forgive me."

Sniffling, she cupped Long Aotian's face. "You have to treat me well, always, and then I’ll forgive you."

"Okay, I, Long Aotian, will definitely protect Hu Yuying and treat her well."

He gently patted her back, and before long, she had nestled against his arm, breathing evenly in her sleep.

Carefully, he turned to face her, watching her peaceful expression, and lightly tapped her nose.

His warm fingertip brushed against her still slightly reddened eyes.

He had promised to protect her from others' bullying, yet he always ended up making her cry.

As his hand stroked her cheek, she seemed to respond, nuzzling against his palm like a little kitten.

He chuckled silently, shifting his body closer to her, placing her hand over his heart, listening to her breathing as he gradually drifted off to sleep.

Morning sunlight streamed through the window, filling the room.

Hu Yuying stretched lazily, her skin exposed to the cool air, which jolted her awake.

Opening her eyes, she blinked in confusion.

She distinctly remembered not having changed out of her clothes last night.

Pulling back the covers, she discovered she was completely undressed except for her underwear.

"Awake?" Long Aotian propped himself up, looking at the still-dazed little girl with a smug grin. "You kept kicking off the covers last night. I figured you were hot because you didn’t change."

"So you helped me take them off?"

Long Aotian chuckled. "No need to thank me; it was just a casual thing."

As he spoke, he casually placed his hand on her little outfit. "It’s just what a big brother should do."

Hu Yuying shot him a glare. "How shameless."

Now that she was his, she didn’t mind his touch.

She just got up to look for the clothes he had taken off her.

Long Aotian also got up, wrapping the blanket around her and handing her the clothes. "I’ll go buy breakfast. You can boil some water and freshen up."

"Wait a second." Hu Yuying called out softly as Long Aotian was about to leave.

"What’s up?"

She bit her lip, glancing at him, then took a deep breath, letting the blanket slip off her shoulders, revealing her youthful, fair body completely to Long Aotian.

Her cheeks flushed bright red, and she quickly turned her back to him. "Help me button this up."
