“No need, don’t you have something to do tomorrow? I just happen to spend more time talking with Grandma.”
As soon as he put down his backpack, he saw Yale King looking at him with a gentle smile in her eyes: “Anything new at school?”
Logan Carter smiled as well. “Doesn’t seem like it. What counts as something new?”
Seeing how calm he was, Yale King knew that the rumors she’d heard earlier were all nonsense. Relieved, she felt playful: “For example, have you run into any pretty Omegas lately?”
She was just asking casually. Logan Carter had grown up surrounded by all kinds of Omegas, but she’d never seen her son take a real interest in anyone.
But after she asked, Logan Carter didn’t say anything.
Yale King looked at him curiously. “There really is someone you think is pretty?”
A face flashed through his mind. Logan Carter answered vaguely, “Sort of.”
A few days ago, that person wouldn’t have even counted as an Omega.
But Yale King got interested right away. “If you think someone’s pretty, you should try to get to know them more. Your dad only managed to win me over because he kept showing up in front of me every day…”
Logan Carter couldn’t help but laugh. He’d just said someone was pretty—how did it get to this?
Seeing his mom getting more and more carried away, Logan Carter found an excuse: “I’m going to take a shower.”
Yale King was still interested, but could only let him go.
Saturday at Nanshan Hospital.
Gavin Dawson came with Yvonne Foster to visit the hospitalized Samuel Harris. Although Yvonne Foster and Charles Harris were married, because of work, they’d spent more time apart than together. It wasn’t until recently that Charles Harris brought Samuel Harris to Ning City.
Yvonne Foster is a remarried Omega. The doctor said that Samuel Harris’s poor health was largely due to the fact that Yvonne Foster had once washed off a mark. Because of this, Yvonne Foster always felt guilty toward her younger son.
Charles Harris and Yvonne Foster had something to take care of and needed to leave for a bit. Yvonne Foster asked Gavin Dawson to help look after Samuel Harris. The little boy kept insisting on going outside to play, so Gavin Dawson had no choice but to push Samuel Harris’s wheelchair and take him to the garden downstairs at the hospital.
“Gege, I want to drink iced Coke.”
“No way. Experts never drink Coke.”
“……”
“Don’t look at me like that. It won’t help.” Gavin Dawson squatted down, looking the kid in the eye with a lazy grin. “Your gege is just that cold-hearted.”
“……” Samuel Harris pouted and tugged at his sleeve, pleading.
Gavin Dawson held his gaze for over ten seconds before giving in.
“I’ll go buy it for you, but it has to be at room temperature, and you can only have one sip.” Gavin Dawson waved a single finger in front of him. “If you drink too much, your dad will get mad and spank you tonight, you know that?”
“Got it!” Samuel Harris cheered. “Gege is the coolest!”
Gavin Dawson was quite pleased with the praise. Just as he was about to get up and leave, he suddenly heard a laugh.
Gavin Dawson turned around and saw Logan Carter standing at the other end of the flowerbed.
Today, he was wearing a white hoodie and dark casual pants. This relaxed style suited him well.
Out of his school uniform, the boy’s figure already had the outline of a man, a perfect blend of maturity and youthful energy.
Gavin Dawson thought Logan Carter was laughing at his childish way of coaxing kids, and frowned instinctively. “What are you doing here?”
“Visiting my grandma. She was admitted to the hospital the day before yesterday.” Logan Carter took two steps forward. “Is this your little brother?”
Gavin Dawson remembered that on the way to the hospital, he’d heard Yvonne Foster complain that Nanshan had received some VIP the day before yesterday. Not only did the hospital director personally receive them, but he even wanted to clear out the entire fifteenth floor of the inpatient department. Luckily, the patient didn’t want to make such a big fuss, or else Samuel Harris would have had to move rooms.
Looks like that VIP was Logan Carter’s grandma.
There was a vending machine not far away. Gavin Dawson nodded. “Can you watch him for a bit? I’m going to buy a bottle of Coke. I’ll be right back.”
Hearing Logan Carter agree, Gavin Dawson turned and left. After he left, Logan Carter asked softly, “Gavin Dawson is your brother?”
Samuel Harris nodded obediently. Logan Carter looked thoughtfully at the child’s face.
When Gavin Dawson came back, he was holding a bottle of room-temperature Coke, already opened.
He reminded him several times to only take one sip, and Samuel Harris listened, just taking a small sip from the bottle.
When the two of them were together, their differences in appearance became even more obvious. The two brothers looked nothing alike—Gavin Dawson’s features were strikingly beautiful, while Samuel Harris was delicate and pale, his features even a bit ordinary.
“Want me to take you upstairs?” Gavin Dawson glanced at his phone. Yvonne Foster had just sent him a WeChat message: “Your dad is back. He’s asking where you are.”
“Gege, are you staying for lunch?”
“No, I…” Noticing the disappointment in Samuel Harris’s eyes, Gavin Dawson glanced at Logan Carter, then quickly came up with an excuse: “I’m going out with my classmate, so I can’t have lunch with you.”
Logan Carter more or less understood the relationship between the two brothers. Seeing Gavin Dawson drag him out as a shield, he simply played along and agreed.
Samuel Harris asked again, “Then when you’re off next week, can you come keep me company?”
