Chapter 14

“He probably wants to save face. After all, he got beaten up by Gavin Dawson a few days ago and can’t let it go…”

Logan Carter paused for a moment, then after a few seconds, still hooked that small white ball out of the basket.

He left the equipment room and immediately saw Gavin Dawson and Shawn Douglas facing off on the court, talking about something. The game hadn’t started yet.

The No.1 High School campus was huge; not only did the gym have basketball courts, but there was also a large outdoor court next to the track.

At that moment, Ethan Brooks saw Logan Carter come out and waved him over, signaling for him to join the fun.

“They just made a bet. The losing side has to go dance at the flag-raising platform later.” Ethan Brooks mentioned the bet, thinking Gavin Dawson’s move was really wicked: “Gavin Dawson is full of tricks, but if our class loses, he’ll have to dance.”

Sean Jordan was watching too: “Say what you will, but square dancing is really something.”

More and more people gathered after hearing the news. It wasn’t just Class Ten and the sports class; students from other classes who’d heard that Gavin Dawson was going to play against Shawn Douglas came to watch. These two names had been trending in the grade’s gossip circles lately, and no one expected them to clash again so soon.

A real show.

As they chatted, the atmosphere on the court was heating up. The boys from the sports class were all tall and strong; two of the five on the court were even on the school team.

Class Ten wasn’t weak either. The ones who hung out with Gavin Dawson were basically the troublemakers who’d paid their way into the class. They might not have any academic talent, but they were experts at sports and games.

Honestly, the match was worth watching.

They agreed to play four quarters, and if there was still no winner after that, they’d play a five-minute overtime.

The sports class’s best player was a dark-skinned guy, tall but incredibly agile. The most eye-catching on Class Ten’s side was Gavin Dawson; his scoring speed under the basket was amazing. With a stretch and a flick of his hand, the basketball would land in the hoop with pinpoint accuracy, each thud making the crowd’s blood boil.

The score stayed neck and neck until the last few minutes, when Gavin Dawson caught the ball, leaned back, and shot without hesitation.

A three-pointer from outside the arc, instantly widening the gap.

Class Ten erupted in cheers.

“Damn!” Ethan Brooks couldn’t help but praise, “That was awesome! He’s really showing off now!”

Logan Carter grunted in agreement, looking at Gavin Dawson surrounded by the boys on the court. Having won the first quarter, everyone was in high spirits.

Ethan Brooks was still excited: “Do you think, if he’d played in the basketball tournament back in freshman year, our class wouldn’t have been stuck in second place behind the sports class?”

Sean Jordan clicked his tongue: “It would’ve been about the same.”

Ethan Brooks: “Don’t lie. Whatever else, he’s really good at basketball.”

In the freshman basketball tournament, Ethan Brooks, Sean Jordan, and Logan Carter were the main players for their class. The class sports rep had said Gavin Dawson was great at basketball and wanted to invite him, but when he heard he’d have to play alongside Logan Carter, Gavin Dawson flatly refused.

Ethan Brooks was probably really hyped up, even forgetting for a moment the grudge between Gavin Dawson and the other two. He grabbed a bottle of water, took a drink, and said to Logan Carter, “Little Duan really is the guy who had that legendary bathroom encounter with you—look at how he plays—”

He couldn’t think of the right word, and just as he was about to take another sip and ponder, Logan Carter reached out and casually flicked Ethan Brooks’s water bottle.

The water suddenly rushed out faster, catching Ethan Brooks off guard and making him cough violently.

Ethan Brooks kept coughing and looked up, face full of misery: “You dog, Lu… cough, cough, why are you hurting me?”

“You’re pretty talented, already writing novels now.” Logan Carter looked at his sorry state, the corners of his lips curling up slightly. “Legendary bathroom encounter?”

“…” Ethan Brooks thought to himself that Logan Carter was getting harder and harder to get along with.

The second quarter began.

Since they’d won the first quarter, Class Ten was in great shape.

Ethan Brooks and Sean Jordan watched from the sidelines, occasionally commenting.

Ethan Brooks: “Shawn Douglas is really useless. Passing him the ball is basically passing it to our basket.”

Sean Jordan: “And their point guard—putting him on the court is a crime.”

Ethan Brooks: “I think we’ve got this round in the bag too.”

Sean Jordan: “Pretty much.”

As soon as they finished speaking, the dark-skinned guy dribbled past and suddenly crashed into Class Ten’s small forward.

The boy was knocked down, landing on the ground and curling up, clutching his knee.

That move was definitely a foul, and someone whispered that they saw him deliberately elbow the boy in the stomach. The atmosphere instantly turned tense.

A boy from Class Ten shoved the dark-skinned guy: “Did you do that on purpose? Trying to start something?”

“You got a problem?” The dark-skinned guy pointed at his own eyes. “How am I starting something? I just accidentally bumped into him.”

The boy who got hit had a bruised and bleeding knee and couldn’t walk for a while—he definitely couldn’t keep playing.

Gavin Dawson checked on him and let out a laugh: “Accidentally?”

His smile was beautiful, but his eyes were cold, carrying a chilling sense of aggression.
