The door swung open, and a figure clutching some documents stepped inside.
It was a girl with dark purple hair, about the same height as Tara. She held the documents close, turned to shut the door, and slowly walked toward Xia Er.
At her forehead, there were protruding, flesh-colored horns that resembled those of a demon. Her eyes were almost entirely black, with only a scarlet pupil at the center.
Those horns were likely a mutation caused by the "Newborn" potion, while her pupils clearly showed signs of contamination from the "Toxicologist" path. Xia Er's "Source of Cholera" archive contained similar mutations, making her look like a horror movie monster.
Yet, the terrifying horns and pupils contrasted sharply with the girl’s beautiful, fair face and her indifferent expression, creating a strange sense of dissonance.
Is this Long Ying?
Xia Er recalled the image he had left of himself in the simulation and immediately confirmed that the girl before him was likely Long Ying.
However... it seemed that the version of himself in the simulation hadn’t depicted those horns.
Was the potion in his body starting to backfire? Was it because he hadn’t continued the slaughter in Beiansu?
“Xia Er.” Long Ying stopped a short distance away, raised the documents in her hands, and then let them drop onto the table.
With a crash, the neatly stacked documents scattered across the surface, some pages fluttering to the floor, and a few even landing beneath the sofa.
Xia Er lifted his gaze slightly, meeting Long Ying’s haughty, piercing stare.
Oh? Looking for trouble?
“You will not disrespect Lord Xia Er!” Tara exclaimed, her temples throbbing with anger as she bared her teeth and stepped forward, her white shadow swirling beneath her.
But the next moment, Tara, who had only taken a couple of steps, suddenly collapsed, falling toward Xia Er.
He reached out and caught her securely. At that moment, Tara didn’t seem to have lost consciousness; instead, she glared at Long Ying with a mix of shame and fury.
“You have quite a few loyal dogs,” Long Ying said, her scarlet pupils scanning Xia Er, her expression slightly puzzled. “You...”
It was clear she had just noticed that Xia Er’s aura and presence had completely changed.
Xia Er ignored her, simply holding the limp Tara in front of him, letting her sit on his lap as if cradling a large doll.
This sensation of holding something lifeless brought Xia Er a sense of peace.
“Is there something you need...” Xia Er rested his chin on Tara’s head, glancing up at Long Ying with a faint smile.
Xia Er’s demeanor left Long Ying momentarily uncertain. She squinted her eyes, and only after confirming that the chilling girl before her was indeed Xia Er did she slowly speak:
“The charade needs to end, Xia Er.”
“All research materials must be sent to you, and all research results must be handed over. We’re not here to work for you...”
“I initially thought that someone who could kill the Strong Sound and turn Ansu City upside down must have some grand plans...”
“Tsk...”
Long Ying shook her head in disappointment, looking at Xia Er. “Now it seems you can do nothing but kill indiscriminately... I take back my earlier invitation for you to join the Pleasure Society.”
It appeared that after a year of Xia Er continuously using and exploiting them for experiments, Long Ying finally erupted when he took all the results and materials following yet another “breakthrough.”
She seemed unable to tolerate the feeling of being controlled by Xia Er, especially now that she was certain he could no longer maintain control of the situation.
In terms of resources and researchers, the Pleasure Society and the infiltrated Natura Medical Group had no shortage. Without Xia Er, they could conduct human experiments on a large scale, and their progress wouldn’t lag far behind what was happening here.
Moreover, without Xia Er, his laboratory would essentially come to a standstill. At that point, the leading teams in the study of flesh alchemy would be Natura and the Pleasure Society.
The potential upheaval from the results of this experiment, the chaos it could unleash upon the world, and the kind of amusement it could create... all of that would be dictated by the Pleasure Society.
Most importantly... Long Ying didn’t have much time left. She had to direct all resources toward herself and prioritize her research on “Uniqueness.” She needed to merge with “Uniqueness.”
Over the past six months, Long Ying had tested her limits multiple times, and she was certain... she could kill Xia Er.
Furthermore, the materials Xia Er had initially provided had been thoroughly researched. Their studies no longer relied on those materials... Xia Er had lost his value as a tool to Long Ying.
As soon as Xia Er showed any sign of opposition, she could instantly kill him... and establish her own path.
This mutually exploitative relationship needed to come to an end. Now, all the researchers were under her control.
Once she dealt with Xia Er, she would take all the research materials and personnel with her, including Adele.
But at that moment, in Long Ying’s eyes, Xia Er seemed to have not heard her words at all.
Xia Er slightly lifted his chin, his cheek sliding along Tara’s long hair until it rested against her face. His left arm wrapped around Tara’s waist, while his right hand slipped under her arm, resting on her shoulder, gently swaying her...
“Tara... what do you think we should do... ha... goodnight... you should sleep for a bit...”
Cradling Tara like a pillow, Xia Er yawned lazily.
This languid yawn made Long Ying’s brow furrow slightly.
She sensed something was off, but she had no idea what Xia Er was planning.
Meanwhile, Tara in Xia Er’s arms had completely flushed cheeks, her heart racing, tears streaming down her face.
“Die.” Once Long Ying was certain the toxin had made contact with Xia Er’s skin, her lips twitched slightly.
If the previous Strong Sound had given Long Ying a sense of pure arrogance and ambition, the Xia Er who now controlled Ansu felt like pure “unknown” and pathology.
It was as if you could never predict what her next move would be, and you could never see through her true intentions...
Various neurotoxins rapidly detonated within Xia Er’s body. These substances, which could cause ordinary extraordinary beings to drop dead with just a few milligrams, now seeped directly into her bloodstream.
But at that moment, a terrifying buzzing echoed in Long Ying’s mind.
Buzz!
It was a spiritual alarm!
At this point, Xia Er had set the now lifeless Tara aside. Before her breathing ceased, Tara’s face still bore tears of pure happiness and a smile.
Xia Er slowly rose, looking in Long Ying’s direction, and raised her right hand.
“Just in time...” At Xia Er’s wrist, the scarlet mycelium bracelet had already burrowed into her veins, the scarlet bacteria wildly invading her body, tearing apart all other toxins. “Before I leave... let me try something new...”
With a rip, the blood-sucking scarlet bacteria erupted from Xia Er’s wrist, splattering a viscous, mold-covered blood across the table. That mass of blood and flesh mycelium began to expand at an unimaginable speed.
Pop!
The expanding mass burst, shooting scarlet mycelium across every corner of the room, transforming it into a den woven from scarlet threads.
At that moment, Xia Er’s face quickly turned pale, as if all color had drained from her.
“What is this?!” Long Ying’s eyes widened in shock as she looked at the blood-red mycelium clinging to her.
She could feel that all the bacteria she relied on for survival had lost their effectiveness. Those viruses, tested on hundreds of thousands of lives, were being mercilessly slaughtered as if they had encountered some terrifying nemesis.
This was impossible!
When it came to killing with poison, aside from the predecessor who created the plague centuries ago, her own toxins were the strongest! She had even reached the level of directly manipulating bacteria at the microscopic level to modify their characteristics.
But now, her proud array of different bacteria and viruses was being ruthlessly devoured and crushed by those scarlet mycelium.
Impossible... how could such bacteria even be cultivated? In any recorded case of deadly infectious diseases, there was no instance of such bacteria being cultivated...
This wasn’t something that could be produced in a laboratory; it required lives to create!
