Chapter 15

A powerless person can see the future?

There are only two possibilities.

A divine oracle, or a sealed object.

But there’s no trace of any sealed object on her.

“Which church do you belong to?” Yulisi asked quickly, her voice tinged with urgency.

If this girl truly was a believer of some church, then she must have received a divine oracle, making her a potential saintess.

“I don’t belong to any church,” Xia’er shook her head and replied, “If I had to say, my sister believes in the Church of the Savior Goddess.”

No church...

How is that even possible?

Yulisi felt a wave of confusion wash over her.

“Then how did you know I was coming to the church in the Bell Tower District today? I haven’t told anyone about this. Is that something you saw in the future?” Yulisi seemed to have caught a crack in Xia’er’s story, her voice urgent.

“I just came to try my luck. I prayed a couple of times at the door, said a few words asking for the goddess’s blessing, and then I saw you coming,” Xia’er said honestly.

The goddess?!

Yulisi stood up abruptly, disbelief etched on her face as she turned to Xia’er.

Was it the goddess who guided her here? Was she the new saintess?!

Then what about the current saintess? Two saintesses in one church? Unheard of!

Yulisi felt her brain was about to short-circuit!

“Wait a second, let me think.” Yulisi paced back and forth, and after a moment of contemplation, she turned back to Xia’er.

“Can you recreate what you saw in the future about how you got to the Hammer Tavern?” Yulisi asked. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep you safe.”

As long as they retraced the steps as the girl described in her vision, and if everything matched up, plus if she could find two identical notebooks on that Thomas, it would prove that these events were real.

Once confirmed as true...

She would immediately escort this girl named Xia’er to the Ansu City Church of the Savior, reporting everything to the Pope, allowing him and the saintess to make a decision.

“Okay.” Xia’er nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over her.

Having simulated this far, Xia’er’s safety was already assured; even if she walked this path in reality, she could survive.

But at the same time, Xia’er couldn’t shake off her worries.

Was this path truly good for her?

It was like exposing all her cards right in front of the church.

The crisis she simulated was only against half-baked extraordinary beings and ordinary gangsters, but once she caught the attention of the higher-ups, the dangers she faced would be far beyond what her simulations could handle.

Take Yulisi, who seemed easy to talk to; what if she learned about Xia’er’s true identity and decided to kill her? In that case, Xia’er couldn’t even begin to simulate a way to escape Yulisi’s pursuit.

If possible, finding a path to survival that didn’t rely on anyone and didn’t expose her identity would be the best solution.

After all, she still had enough points for one more simulation. This time, she would follow Yulisi, taking it step by step, hoping to find a way to grow stronger or a better method for assassination.

After confirming their next steps, Yulisi put away the two notebooks, returned the revolver to Xia’er, and donned her hood and mask again, retreating into the shadows to observe Xia’er.

Meanwhile, Xia’er acted as if nothing had happened, returning home under the watchful eyes of her two pursuers.

**Chapter 14: If I Were, I’d Like to Drink the Potion**

Back home, Xia’er, just like in her previous simulation, fell directly into a deep sleep, trying to recover some energy.

When she woke up at four in the morning, she felt that her body in the simulation had nearly recovered, but her mental state was still barely improved.

In simple terms, this sleep felt almost like no sleep at all.

It seemed that trying to exploit a bug to recover energy by sleeping in the simulation was indeed not feasible.

To ensure that the subsequent developments mirrored her last simulation, Xia’er waited until four forty-five before quietly opening her door and leaving.

At the corner of the alley across the street, Xia’er spotted the familiar figure wearing a beret, and beneath the extinguished streetlamp, she saw Yulisi leaning against the pole, praying with her head bowed.

Yulisi seemed to notice Xia’er stepping out; she paused her prayer and turned her masked face toward the direction of the door.

For Yulisi, night and day held no distinction; she sensed Xia’er’s figure dart past her, heading straight for the sleeping pursuer at the alley’s mouth.

“Thud—”

The sound of a short blade piercing flesh echoed from the alley, and Yulisi followed closely behind Xia’er, pausing slightly as she passed the corpse.

A skilled killing technique, a single strike to end it, leaving no time for the victim to react.

Yulisi felt little pity for the dead man; she had seen him tailing Xia’er, and she held no fondness for the gangsters.

She followed Xia’er until they reached an alley not far from the Hammer Tavern, but Xia’er didn’t rush ahead; instead, she lingered in the alley for a moment.

Is this the place?

There was indeed a faint extraordinary aura... but it was weak.

Yulisi decided not to follow Xia’er any longer; she walked directly to the tavern’s entrance, listening intently to the happenings inside.

The two arguing inside were oblivious to the fact that someone was standing outside.

When the man in the black robe downed the potion, the girl named Xia’er slowly approached.

“He’s already drunk the potion; this isn’t what you said,” Yulisi spoke up.

“Maybe something went wrong in the process...” Xia’er shook her head and replied, “In the future I saw, I killed the pursuer in the alley just now, and it took some time to deal with the body.”

Yulisi didn’t pay much attention to Xia’er’s explanation; by this point, she was already ninety percent convinced of everything Xia’er had said.

As for the remaining ten percent, it depended on whether they could find those two identical notebooks on the person inside.

“Ding-a-ling-ling—”

Yulisi pushed open the tavern door and slowly extended her right hand toward the faint extraordinary power ahead.

In Xia’er’s view, the oil lamps in the tavern suddenly flickered and went out, and after a few flashes, everything before her changed.

The man in the black robe, Thomas, who had been turning to look this way, along with the leader of the Black Water Gang behind the bar, now knelt before Yulisi like devout worshippers.

Xia’er couldn’t see what was happening at all.

All she could see was Thomas’s right hand moving stiffly and uncontrollably, reaching into his robe to pull out two notebooks and a vial of potion, holding them reverently above his head and offering them to Yulisi.

It was as if an invisible force was compelling him to make these gestures.

What was this? Why couldn’t she see it?

Xia’er widened her eyes, trying to discern what was happening inside, but all she could see was the two notebooks “floating” along a trajectory into Yulisi’s hands.

It was as if a transparent person was handing them to her.

Was the reason she couldn’t see it because she wasn’t an extraordinary being?

On Yulisi’s left, two notebooks floated, while her right hand held two identical ones. All four notebooks opened simultaneously, making a rustling sound in the quiet night.

“Identical...” Yulisi murmured to herself.

“Xia’er.” After finishing the last page, Yulisi stepped in front of Xia’er, raised her hand to remove her mask, and asked seriously, “Are you... interested in the Church of the Savior Goddess?”

“Uh?” Xia’er was taken aback.

What kind of development was this?

She had anticipated that Yulisi would continue to question her about her ability to see the future, but she never expected her to start preaching directly.

“Here’s the thing,” Yulisi took a deep breath and began, “Do you know what the future fragments you saw are?”

“These are the goddess’s guidance; she is leading you to find me, so I can guide you into the Church of the Savior Goddess. This is all a divine oracle she has bestowed.”

“Xia’er, you are very likely to be our new saintess of the Church of the Savior Goddess.”

“As long as you come back to the church with me and tell the Pope everything, you can become the second saintess of our Church of the Savior Goddess.”

“Will you come with me to the Church of the Savior Goddess?”

Now, the misunderstanding had escalated.

Xia’er quickly realized.

She knew best that she was not a saintess at all. If she really followed Yulisi to the church, her lack of saintly status would be laid bare.
