Chapter 5

After a quick shower, Yu Xunge stepped out of her room, seemingly oblivious to the astonished and flustered expressions of Yu Qingshan and Yi Qiuguo. She pressed her forehead and said, “I signed a new endorsement deal yesterday. I was so happy that I came back to have a drink with my brother. I’ll be busy now, so you two can whip up some hangover soup for him, okay?”

Without waiting for a response, she walked away.

Before leaving, she casually swiped a couple of items from them, only to find that her skills wouldn’t activate. Remembering the line in the skill description that said, “You cannot target beings of a lower life level than yourself; the Thief God never bullies the weak,” she guessed it was because they weren’t players and thus had a lower life level. But what about players of a lower level than herself? Could she not steal from them either?

Lost in thought, she stepped outside, only to realize her phone was missing.

So, she donned a mask and went to replace her SIM card with her ID. Fortunately, even though she was in the entertainment industry, she was just a small-time player in a third-tier city. If someone spotted her on the street, they might take a photo, but it wouldn’t lead to a mob scene.

Not long after she bought a new phone and inserted the new SIM card, a call from Liu Zhengliu came in.

Feigning ignorance to the anger in his voice, she directly asked for three days off.

Liu Zhengliu was momentarily taken aback by her audacity. “You don’t want to stay in this industry anymore?!”

Yu Xunge sighed, “Just give me three days, okay? I’m really a bit tired. How about we have a drink together after that?”

The last sentence left Liu Zhengliu speechless. Thinking that he would likely have something to report to President Liu in three days, he suppressed his anger and said, “Alright, just make sure to rest well. Don’t bottle things up.”

After a few murmurs of agreement, Yu Xunge hung up and drove out of the city.

Discovered by a talent scout in her sophomore year, she had entered the entertainment industry at the age of 25. Although she was just a minor celebrity, the money came quickly in this business. She didn’t have particularly extravagant tastes, and even after giving her parents and brother over seventy million, she still had more than eighty million in her account.

Even if she stopped working, she wouldn’t lack for money. However, after the game invasion, that money quickly depreciated. As time passed, more and more monsters from the other world appeared, and with the increasing number of dungeons, players began trading items, weapons, and armor using in-game currency. In just six months, real-world currency was replaced by gold coins, silver coins, and copper coins.

She knew that Yu Qingshan and Yi Qiuguo were eyeing that eighty million. In her previous life, it was on this very day that she had almost been sent to the bed of the bald old president by Liu Zhengliu, all while suppressing her disgust to show Yu Xunhuan the villa. Later, the basement of that villa she bought for Yu Xunhuan had even spawned a dungeon entrance…

If real estate was a symbol of wealth, then after the game invasion, having a hidden dungeon entrance was akin to possessing a treasure mountain.

The dungeon was like a time portal sent by the otherworldly beings. Owning a dungeon entrance that only she knew about was essentially equivalent to having access to all the resources that the otherworldly beings dropped in that dungeon. What else could it be but a treasure mountain?

Today, she was determined to buy the villa she had given to Yu Xunhuan in her previous life and put it under her name.

She skipped the viewing process and finalized the purchase before dinner.

Without even eating, she rushed to the flower and bird market to buy a thrush, then picked up some takeout from a nearby restaurant before returning to the small villa she had bought for herself with her earnings.

Upon entering, she deleted all the fingerprints and facial recognition data of Yu Qingshan, Yi Qiuguo, and Yu Xunhuan stored in the door system.

Sitting down, she opened the takeout box while twisting the thrush’s neck.

Then she activated her skill, “Only the Dead Will Obey,” and almost instantly, she felt a connection form between her and the dead thrush. With a thought, the thrush, which had its head tilted to one side, flew up, its head righting itself in a strange manner, as if an invisible hand had helped it adjust.

By closing her eyes and concentrating, she could “see” everything through the thrush’s eyes: the spacious living room, and a woman sitting cross-legged in front of the sofa.

She checked the time and directed the thrush to fly in circles around the room.

After finishing her meal, she tidied up the room. She hadn’t stayed in this villa yet, as she preferred to return to her so-called family during holidays.

She took the thrush with her and drove out to buy clothes and toiletries, all the while controlling the thrush to fly above her car. Before going to bed that night, she commanded the thrush to keep flying without stopping.

The next morning at 7 AM, she checked her mana points—still 20 left.

Controlling a thrush’s corpse to fly continuously for 12 hours only required 80 mana. What if she were to control an adult human?

That day, Yu Xunge brushed off Yi Qiuguo’s comments about how she already had a house but her brother still needed one, and organized her belongings. She bought three large storage boxes of the same kind, dividing her firearms, ammunition, and explosives into them, stacking them in a game inventory slot.

She could take out the storage boxes whenever she needed to search through them.

She left one fully loaded gun in another slot.

She didn’t plan to store healing potions and mana potions like that; those needed to be readily accessible, as even a second’s delay could mean death. She filled an entire slot with them to feel secure.

She ordered a cabinet for herbal medicine from a Chinese medicine shop, and after paying extra, it was delivered the same day. She labeled each drawer with the names of the herbs, filled them up, and placed the extra healing and mana potions in the bottom row of cabinets.

In this way, she had only used 5 of her 30 game inventory slots: 99 Basic Healing Potions, 99 Basic Mana Potions, 3 Basic Invisibility Potions, 1 Poor Quality Shotgun, and 3 Storage Boxes.

After using her disguise skill, Yu Xunge went to a store with cash to buy various tools needed for alchemy, as well as weapons like crossbows, long knives, and electric batons.

That day, she also experimented further with the skill “Only the Dead Will Obey.”

When she commanded the thrush to stay quietly on the table without moving, it consumed only 2 mana over 12 hours. However, the dead thrush was already starting to emit a faint odor.

It seemed that while this skill could allow the dead to maintain some mobility, it couldn’t prevent the decay of the corpse.

That night, Yu Xunge drove to a mall near Liu Hongsheng’s home. After using the skill “Thief God’s Talent” in the restroom to change into another outfit stored in her game inventory, she stepped out of the stall. Looking at the unfamiliar woman in the mirror, she couldn’t help but gasp; the game’s talent skills were indeed the most unscientific existence.

Not only had her height and appearance changed, but even her hair had become shorter.

Yu Xunge took a taxi and arrived at the apartment building where Liu Hongsheng lived in just seven minutes. Her thrush had been following Liu Hongsheng since he left work that day. Although she didn’t understand why he hadn’t returned to the villa, she didn’t care.

She handed cash to the driver and got out.

Three minutes later, Yu Xunge rang the doorbell of Liu Hongsheng’s apartment.

The door was opened by a seductive woman wearing a sexy camisole. She glanced at Yu Xunge and asked, “Who are you looking for?”

Yu Xunge replied in a serious tone, “I’m looking for my boss, Liu Hongsheng. I have an urgent work matter to report.”

The woman nodded, opened the outer door, and let her in. Her expression was unreadable. There was the sound of water running from the bathroom, indicating that Liu Hongsheng was likely taking a shower. Yu Xunge said, “Can I wait for him in the study? Just tell him it’s an important matter from a manager with the surname Liu, and he’ll understand.”

The woman seemed to have a good temperament. After leading Yu Xunge into the study, she even poured her a glass of water.

Yu Xunge stood by the door, taking out the electric baton from her space and gripping it tightly. Excitement coursed through her veins, leaving no room for fear. Sometimes she wondered if she was born to love adventure; otherwise, why did she feel exhilarated rather than pained during countless life-and-death situations in her previous life?

Soon, the sound of water stopped, and the voices of a man and woman began to converse. After a while, someone approached the study.

The door opened, blocking Yu Xunge’s figure. As the familiar silhouette stepped into the study, she closed the door with her left hand and pressed the electric baton against Liu Hongsheng’s neck with her right.

Seconds later, he convulsed and collapsed. Yu Xunge turned the baton to its maximum power and pressed it against Liu Hongsheng’s heart without letting go. Five minutes later, he lay still. Yu Xunge attempted to use her skill “Only the Dead Will Obey” on Liu Hongsheng. The next second, he opened his eyes, his gaze somewhat vacant.

She controlled Liu Hongsheng to stand up and then had him escort her out of the study, bidding farewell to the woman under her watchful gaze.

It wasn’t until Yu Xunge got into a car heading to a nearby mall that she realized her disguise still had 17 minutes left.

With her eyes closed, she directed Liu Hongsheng to say goodbye to the woman and then had him send a text to Liu Zhengliu, arranging to meet her in the office.

Liu Zhengliu was buying alcohol, contemplating where to take Yu Xunge for drinks the next day, so that Liu Hongsheng could make his move while she could distance herself.

To be honest, Yu Xunge treated her quite well. The salary was high, and the benefits were good. Even after becoming famous, she hadn’t kicked her out. But there was no profit-sharing; those top agents could take a cut from their artists, and every time she brought it up, she was refused.

Liu Zhengliu didn’t want to betray Yu Xunge, but the conditions Liu Hongsheng offered were too tempting. If she could keep Yu Xunge under control, she could use her to curry favor with the company’s partners. The money she earned wouldn’t just allow her to take a cut; she could also negotiate for a few of this year’s new talent to mentor…
