Chapter 136

Bai Feng had just settled onto the sofa when Yun Yueyao plopped down directly to his left, wrapping her arms around his arm and leaning almost entirely against him. On his right, Bai Yumo was equally unwilling to be outdone, pressing closely against him. Though she didn’t hold onto his arm, she gently tugged at his sleeve.

Yun Yueyao leaned slightly to peek at Bai Yumo, a playful smile dancing on her lips. Bai Yumo, however, blushed and lowered her head, yet her grip remained firm.

Clearly, Bai Yumo was more bashful, easily outmatched by Yun Yueyao’s boldness.

Before Bai Feng could say anything, Yun Yueyao lifted her head and spoke first:

“Bai Feng, I didn’t come just to see you. I should have waited until after I reached the Transformation stage to find you, but I thought about it and realized you’re already caught in a dangerous whirlpool. Plus, I just couldn’t hold back.”

“What do you mean?”

“The future is perilous,” Yun Yueyao said softly. “If you hadn’t studied formations or joined the Tianjian Sect, you might have been a bit safer. But now, you’re standing on the edge of the stage—be careful!”

“Dangerous?”

Bai Feng glanced at Yun Yueyao and Bai Yumo, feeling that he was already in quite a bit of danger himself, with the system potentially throwing him a curveball at any moment.

“In recent years, talented individuals have been popping up too frequently,” Yun Yueyao leaned against him again, her eyes narrowing slightly as if she were enjoying the moment. “And in the future, immortal traces will appear more often. Everyone will be swept up in it—no one can stay out of it.”

Bai Feng fell into deep thought. He recalled his system and the numerous fated children who had emerged. If immortal traces truly appeared in the future, it would indeed be a catastrophe for this world.

He didn’t believe that the fated children would coexist peacefully, especially since many of them were selfish and ruthless, willing to do anything for their own gain.

“You must have had some kind of fortuitous encounter that allowed you to escape your destined future, but I don’t know if that’s good or bad,” Yun Yueyao continued. “But don’t worry, I’ll protect you… I will definitely keep you safe.”

After a few seconds of silence, Bai Feng asked, “Can I ask what my future self is like?”

“A husband who loves me dearly!” Yun Yueyao replied with a serious expression.

“...You know that’s not what I meant.”

“Hmm, your fate has already changed. Even if I told you, it wouldn’t hold much reference value,” Yun Yueyao shook her head. “You didn’t study formations or join the Tianjian Sect, so my father brought me to the Bai family. Every day, you either chatted with me or drew… uh, is that something I shouldn’t say?”

“Alright, I get the gist.”

Bai Feng waved his hand dismissively.

It seemed that in the future Yun Yueyao had ‘touched,’ he didn’t have a system.

But even without a system, why would he be drawing those kinds of pictures?

Meanwhile, Bai Yumo furrowed her brow. She recognized every word they were saying, but when put together, it all became a bit confusing.

What future? What fate? She knew that the Tianyan Sacred Land was best known for fortune-telling, but this was all too mystical!

“Brother, it’s best not to believe in this kind of thing…” she whispered in Bai Feng’s ear.

Before Bai Feng could respond, Yun Yueyao turned to Bai Yumo and said, “Bai Yumo, I know it’s hard for you to believe what I’m saying, but I still suggest you prepare yourself. You wouldn’t want Bai Feng to encounter any accidents, would you?”

“What do you mean?”

Yun Yueyao didn’t answer Bai Yumo’s confusion. Instead, she continued, “Actually, I don’t dislike you that much. After all, we’re quite similar, though I’m not as twisted as you.”

Bai Yumo frowned slightly and retorted, “I’m nothing like you! What are you trying to say?”

“In the near future, I’ll need you to protect Bai Feng,” Yun Yueyao said, tracing circles on Bai Feng’s arm with her finger. “After all, I can’t always be by his side, hmm…”

Suddenly, she seemed to remember something and quickly pulled out a small red book from her storage bag. “Bai Feng, please sign this first!”

“What is this?” Bai Feng picked up the red book and glanced at it.

Yun Yueyao replied earnestly, “It’s a special spiritual artifact that can protect you from harm.”

“No, this is clearly a marriage certificate!” Bai Feng looked at Yun Yueyao in disbelief. “At least change the wording on it!”

“Once we’re married, I can protect you from harm.”

Bai Feng: “…”

That sounds great, but I feel like the moment I sign it, I’ll be in trouble with the system.

“Why are you so shameless!”

Bai Yumo snatched the marriage certificate away, her eyes fixed on Yun Yueyao, her anger bubbling just beneath the surface.

“Hmm, fine, luckily I prepared another one…” Yun Yueyao pulled out another marriage certificate from her storage bag. “This one is for Bai Yumo; you should sign it too.”

Bai Feng: “?”

What did you just say?

Bai Yumo froze, her face turning red while confusion flickered in her eyes.

Yun Yueyao answered somewhat shyly, “I can’t be 100% sure I can protect you alone. Besides, Bai Yumo likes you too, right? If it’s Bai Yumo, I can step back.”

“No, no, that’s not true! You’re spreading rumors!”

Once her feelings were exposed, Bai Yumo’s face turned completely crimson, and she stammered in her defense.

Yun Yueyao tilted her head, then stood up and hugged Bai Feng. “Well, if that’s the case, I’ll just monopolize him.”

“Ugh…”

Bai Yumo was momentarily stunned, her head lowered, her lips slightly puffed out, her body trembling.

“I mean, at least ask for my opinion?” Bai Feng pushed her away gently, unable to hold back his complaints.

“Hmm, I overlooked that.” Yun Yueyao nodded. “So, Bai Feng, when do you think we should get married?”

“…”

So I’m definitely getting married to you, huh?

“Wait.” Bai Yumo exhaled, then looked up at Yun Yueyao, her expression resolute. “I don’t know what kind of future you’ve seen, but even if you don’t say anything, I will protect Bai Feng. That’s our promise.”

“Not necessarily,” Yun Yueyao shook her head. “While I do have a responsibility, you haven’t protected him well, and that’s because of your twisted personality.”

“That’s just your guess…” Bai Yumo bit her lip.

“Let’s hope it’s just my guess,” Yun Yueyao shook her head. “This time, I won’t make the same mistake. What about you? Do you want to keep being twisted? If you see me with Bai Feng in the future, will you hide away and refuse to see anyone?”

“…” Bai Yumo averted her gaze and fell silent.

Yun Yueyao continued, “Rather than competing with someone who has no chance, I’d prefer to protect him. If you continue like this, it means I misjudged you, so please step aside.”

“...I won’t step aside.” Bai Yumo clenched her fists. Under Yun Yueyao’s relentless pressure, she seemed to finally make up her mind. “I will protect him and won’t let what you mentioned happen.”

Then she reached out and grabbed the hem of Bai Feng’s clothing, her eyes not daring to meet his. She lowered her head and spoke softly, “Brother, I know my feelings for you might be wrong. You don’t have to respond; just let me stay by your side and protect you…”

Bai Feng looked at Bai Yumo, and at that moment, he felt far calmer than he had anticipated.

He had briefly considered stopping their argument, but that thought was quickly suppressed.

First, he didn’t know how to mediate this situation; it seemed that no matter what he said, it would ultimately trigger a bomb. Even if he successfully mediated, it would only delay the crisis, and as time went on, the crisis might grow even larger. Second, he noticed that Yun Yueyao seemed to be intentionally resolving this matter; she wasn’t just arguing for the sake of it.

Suddenly, he reached out and grasped Bai Yumo’s wrist, then pulled her into his embrace with a firm tug, eliciting a gasp from her. “Now that you’ve said that, do you really think we can keep playing this sibling role?”

“Brother…” Bai Yumo’s face turned red as she nearly buried her head in his chest.

Bai Feng glanced at the unresponsive system, feeling a slight sense of relief.

At least for now, it seemed he had dodged this big bomb, right?

Before this, he hadn’t expected such a result; he had even prepared for an explosion from both sides. He had to thank Yun Yueyao for that!

He was just a bit curious about what kind of future she had ‘touched’ that led her to make such a decision.
