Chapter 20

Especially in this unfamiliar environment, Bai Yumo provided him with a sense of security.

In addition, there was his fan, Lin Yan, who was also a child of fortune, capable of offering reassurance.

Well, he should find a chance to say hello.

...

The houses on Qingzhu Peak were quite simple, mostly built from bamboo and a few wooden planks.

The interior was just as basic, containing only the essentials— a bed, a few tables, several chairs, and a meditation mat.

“It’s not bad; it allows for close contact with nature,” Bai Feng commented.

“It is a bit rudimentary…” Bai Yumo said, scratching her face awkwardly. Her master preferred a classical style, shunning extravagant decorations and advocating for inner cultivation in a natural setting.

This had led to her master’s peak, as well as her disciples, being influenced to varying degrees.

“It’s fine; it’s nice to change the environment a bit,” Bai Feng waved his hand. After all, he was only staying for a few days; he could treat it like a little vacation.

“By the way, brother, let me show you around the sect,” Bai Yumo said, her eyes sparkling with hope. “But if you’re feeling tired, we can do it tomorrow. I’ve got plenty of time lately.”

“Let’s go for a stroll then; I’m curious about Tianjian Sect,” he replied, needing to investigate the number of children of fortune in the sect.

After all, this was going to be his home, and he needed to gather some information.

“Great! Let’s start with the Mission Hall, which is near the main peak. It’s easy to find…” Bai Yumo began to lead the way, while Bai Feng listened to her introduction, keeping an eye on the fortune detector from the system.

He had expected to see many children of fortune in Tianjian Sect, but to his surprise, he hadn’t encountered many at all during his walk.

Could it be that all the children of fortune were out? Or were they busy cultivating and not wandering around?

Or perhaps they preferred smaller sects and didn’t like staying in larger ones?

Bai Feng couldn’t help but mutter to himself.

However, this was good news for him. Whether it was because the children of fortune were busy cultivating or simply because they were few in number, it meant he could have an easier time in Tianjian Sect.

“This is Dan Peak. If you want to buy pills, you can come here,” Bai Yumo said, still smiling after a long walk. “Brother, where do you want to go next?”

“Um, nowhere else. Let’s head back,” Bai Feng replied, his expression a bit unnatural. He felt as if the nearby disciples of Tianjian Sect were about to devour him whole, which was quite frightening.

“What did I just see? Bai Shijie from Qingzhu Peak is actually smiling, and so happily too. How infuriating! Could it be that the rumors are false?”

“Bai Shijie must be under duress; it has to be! Damn it, Bai Feng, you scoundrel, hand over whatever you’re using to control Bai Shijie!”

Aside from those unwilling to accept reality, a small group of disciples played the role of armchair critics:

“Sigh, I thought the rumors were a bit too outrageous. If the bone-excavation incident was true, how could Bai Shijie still have feelings for the Bai family?”

“Exactly! I noticed it long ago, but the public opinion was so one-sided that I didn’t dare to speak up.”

“Who’s being an armchair critic? Get lost!”

“I don’t believe it; this must be an act! It’s obvious that the bone-excavation incident is tied to Bai Feng!”

As the person involved, Bai Feng could only pretend he hadn’t heard, after all, human prejudice is a mountain that isn’t easily moved.

Anyway, once the sect leader of Tianjian Sect made arrangements, he would just stay at home and avoid any trouble from the extreme disciples.

Bai Yumo, on the other hand, didn’t care about what the surrounding disciples were saying. She knew that under the deep-rooted influence of the rumors, even if she stepped in to explain, it would be interpreted as being coerced by Bai Feng.

It was better to focus more energy on Bai Feng; over time, the rumors would naturally dissipate.

“Let’s head back then.”

Bai Yumo glanced at the loudest disciples, then linked her arm with Bai Feng’s. When he looked over, she playfully stuck out her tongue. “Let’s go, brother! What do you want to eat tonight?”

“I remember there’s no kitchen in the house, right?”

“We can whip up something simple!”

Bai Feng didn’t stop Bai Yumo’s actions. While he could ignore the surrounding discussions, it didn’t mean he didn’t have a temper. Since others couldn’t stand seeing him and Bai Yumo being close, he might as well be a bit more affectionate.

If it annoyed them, then he’d be satisfied!

As he expected, most of the surrounding disciples looked shocked and incredulous, especially those who had been the loudest; their faces were already showing signs of collapse.

But before he could leave Dan Peak, a disciple suddenly stepped out to block his path.

“Bai Feng, you really have some tricks up your sleeve,” the disciple squinted, anger simmering in his eyes. “You can fool others, but not me!”

He then turned to Bai Yumo. “Bai Shimei, this is Tianjian Sect. You don’t need to worry about the Bai family. Even if he did something to you, we can help you! You must trust Tianjian Sect!”

Bai Yumo: “?”

**Chapter 23: I’m the Victim!**

Although Bai Yumo felt a bit angry, she replied calmly, “Thank you for your concern, Senior Brother, but I don’t understand what you’re saying. I’m just showing my brother around Tianjian Sect.”

Seeing that he was getting nowhere with Bai Yumo, the disciple turned to Bai Feng with a fierce glare. “Alright, you’re trying to pull a fast one on me. Don’t make me reveal what you did to Bai Shimei that night!”

Bai Feng: “?”

What night? What did I do to Bai Yumo?

“Senior Brother, have you been overworking yourself and are now hallucinating? I just joined Tianjian Sect and have never seen you before.”

“You really won’t cry until you see the coffin!” The disciple was almost laughing in anger. “Let me give you a hint: that night, Bai Shimei was forced to wear a purple dress and bent over in pain on the street. How do you explain that?”

As soon as he finished speaking, several disciples gasped in surprise:

“Wow, the Bai family really is something else. Bai Feng didn’t get punished, and now he’s trying to control Bai Shijie.”

“I knew Bai Feng wasn’t a good person. Don’t be afraid, Bai Shijie; this is Tianjian Sect. The Bai family can’t do anything to you!”

Their voices were loud, and almost everyone present heard their discussions. Some disciples who were already reluctant to believe Bai Feng was a good person quickly joined in.

Bai Feng didn’t pay attention to the surrounding chatter. Reminded by the other disciple, he did recall that this was when the system had given him fortune points, wasn’t it?

Remembering this made him angry!

It was clearly Bai Yumo who had set him up! I’m the victim here!

Just as he was about to defend himself, Bai Yumo, looking displeased, spoke up first:

“Senior Brother, I failed my breakthrough to the Golden Core, so I’m unwell. Please don’t make assumptions.”

Seeing he wasn’t getting the response he wanted, the disciple grew anxious. “Bai Shimei, why are you still speaking up for him?”

“What do you mean I’m speaking up for my brother?”

Bai Yumo’s face had returned to calm, but her eyes were cold enough to send chills down one’s spine. “You can assume that my illness is due to the Bai family controlling me, but when I’m chatting and laughing with my brother, you assume I’m being coerced. What do I need to do for you to believe my actions are of my own will?”

“Bai Shimei, that’s not…”

The disciple felt a chill, even sensing a hint of murderous intent. He became flustered, his words tumbling out incoherently.

“Get lost, and don’t let me see you again.” Bai Yumo suddenly exuded a powerful aura. Though she had just recently advanced to the Golden Core stage, her presence rivaled that of seasoned experts. “If I see you spreading rumors again, let’s see if my sword is sharp enough.”

Though this disciple was also at the Golden Core stage, he couldn’t withstand Bai Yumo’s killing intent. He wanted to grit his teeth, but his body trembled uncontrollably, like a deflated balloon. After a few seconds, he fled without uttering a word.

Bai Yumo then turned her gaze to the loudest disciples, her coldness unmasked.

Instantly, they felt like ducks caught by the throat, silenced and sweating profusely. They felt as if they were in the dead of winter, wearing only a thin garment, while Bai Yumo’s gaze was like a biting cold wind, unbearable to endure.

“Get lost.”
