Chapter 23

Bai Feng stood up and walked to the door, pushing it open to find the peak master, Chu Ningyan, standing there.

At that moment, she was smiling at him. “Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

“Please, Peak Master!”

Bai Feng quickly stepped aside, his mind racing: Could it be that the results are finally in?

He wondered how the sect leader would arrange things for him—would he go to the main peak or somewhere else?

“Yumo is here too!”

Chu Ningyan smiled as she looked at the two of them, clearly pleased with the good relationship between the siblings.

“Master.” Bai Yumo quickly greeted her, her face lighting up with curiosity and a hint of hope. “Have you all made a decision?”

Chu Ningyan nodded with a smile. “Yes, after several days of discussion, we’ve finally come to a conclusion today.”

Bai Feng and Bai Yumo exchanged puzzled glances.

Then, Chu Ningyan turned her attention to Bai Feng. Instead of immediately announcing the results, she asked a few questions first. “Bai Feng, have you been comfortable staying at Qingzhu Peak these past few days?”

“Yeah, it’s quite nice here. The environment is peaceful, and no one bothers me.”

Bai Feng nodded, though he thought the house was a bit too simple.

“That’s good to hear.” Chu Ningyan’s smile faded slightly, and her demeanor became more serious. “I’d like to know if you’re willing to take me as your master. Although I’m not well-versed in formations, I can help you find an elder who is. However… if you have other ideas, you’re free to choose another peak.”

Bai Feng fell into deep thought. He hadn’t expected this outcome.

He had assumed he would be assigned to Fu Peak or the main peak, especially since he had a talent for talismans. Bai Yumo had recommended him to join Tianjian Sect because of his aptitude in that area.

He didn’t think this decision was made lightly; after all the discussions, it must have been carefully considered.

Could it be that his talent in formations was so strong that others were hesitant to take him on?

Chu Ningyan didn’t rush him. Instead, she sat down in a nearby chair, glancing at the formation books on the table that had been perused, feeling quite satisfied.

After all, who wouldn’t appreciate a talented and hardworking disciple?

If Bai Feng was willing to take her as his master, she would do everything in her power to bring in a few formation masters to teach her disciple.

Meanwhile, Bai Yumo looked a bit anxious. Although she wanted Bai Feng to stay at Qingzhu Peak, she didn’t want to interfere with his choice, especially since she felt she had already owed him too much.

Soon, Bai Feng made up his mind.

He raised his head and bowed to Chu Ningyan. “Disciple Bai Feng pays respects to Master.”

“Good. From now on, you can focus on your cultivation at Qingzhu Peak. You don’t need to worry about any tasks.” Chu Ningyan smiled, reaching into her storage bag to retrieve a bamboo sword she had prepared. “I’m sure you wouldn’t be interested in ordinary spirit weapons. This bamboo sword was my companion before I reached the Nascent Soul stage, and I’ve nurtured it for quite some time.”

“Thank you, Master.”

Bai Feng took the bamboo sword. Though it appeared to be made of green bamboo, it radiated a warm luster, smooth and delicate like jade. The bamboo had a semi-transparent quality, and the joints between the segments, though slightly raised, were exquisitely patterned like jade, making it hard to put down.

“I’m glad you like it.” Chu Ningyan slowly stood up. “I won’t disturb you any longer. If you have any questions, feel free to find me. If I’m not around, you can go to the sect leader.”

“Yes, Master, take care.”

Bai Feng watched as Chu Ningyan left, feeling a surge of excitement within him.

Despite some bumps along the way, with the sect leader’s meetings dragging on for days and leaving him anxious, he had finally achieved his goal.

From now on, he could just stay at Qingzhu Peak, completely cutting off all troubles.

As for why he chose to remain at Qingzhu Peak, if it had been when he first entered Tianjian Sect, he might have chosen somewhere else.

But after learning that he was being targeted by the Child of Fortune, his options had narrowed significantly.

Although his sister Bai Yumo occasionally slipped him some fortune value like before, compared to being targeted by the Child of Fortune, having to receive fortune value just to survive made the occasional gift more acceptable.

Moreover, it was safer here. After all, borrowing a phrase from his father, only the Child of Fortune could deal with another Child of Fortune.

With that thought, he glanced at Bai Yumo, who was struggling to contain her smile, and his eyes filled with affection.

Sister, from now on, your brother’s life depends on you.

A month later.

Bai Feng was hiding in his study, painting. Although he had joined Tianjian Sect, he couldn’t forget his old craft.

Formations were work; painting was life.

“Hmm? Someone’s here?”

Bai Feng sensed that the formation he had set up was triggered, and he quickly put down his brush and tucked the painting into a drawer engraved with a mini illusion formation.

Once everything was tidied up, he stepped out of the study and opened the door.

“Bai brother, you joined Tianjian Sect without telling me! I only found out today!”

A voice of complaint rang out; it was Bai Feng’s fan, Lin Yan.

“I heard you were in seclusion, so I didn’t want to disturb you. Come on, let’s go inside and talk.” Bai Feng smiled as he explained, and they entered the room together. “You look like you’ve made a breakthrough to the late Foundation Establishment stage, right?”

“Just lucky. It’s nothing compared to you, the formation genius who escaped from the Holy Maiden of a Hundred Faces.” Lin Yan replied with a laugh, then sighed. “Sigh, I’ve been in seclusion for a month and missed out on how many books from Master Chunqiu. Now I’ll have to buy them at a high price again.”

Every time Bai Feng heard Lin Yan talk about Chunqiu, he felt a bit strange.

Although he had complained many times, he couldn’t help but wonder—how did this Child of Fortune become his fan?

But Bai Feng didn’t show any signs of discomfort on the surface; instead, he shook his head with a hint of sadness. “You can rest easy about that, Lin brother. Master Chunqiu hasn’t released any books in the past month.”

“Why is that?” Lin Yan looked surprised. “Could it be… has Master Chunqiu gone offline?”

“Not at all.” Bai Feng pretended to hesitate for a few seconds before lowering his voice. “It’s like this: Master Chunqiu has some connections with our Bai family and occasionally returns home. However, not long ago, the Holy Maiden of a Hundred Faces somehow got wind of this and barged into our Bai family, which is why I had to rush to Tianjian Sect early.”

“What?” Lin Yan clenched his fists, practically itching to confront the Holy Maiden of a Hundred Faces.

“Calm down, Lin brother. Don’t worry; Master Chunqiu wasn’t hurt. It was just that his manuscript was stolen, which delayed things a bit.” Bai Feng quickly explained, adding in a low voice, “Don’t mention this to anyone else. Master Chunqiu doesn’t want his identity exposed.”

“Good to hear.” Lin Yan sighed in relief, then looked at Bai Feng with curiosity. “By the way, how did you get involved in this? I heard you almost got captured by that demoness.”

“Don’t even get me started.” Bai Feng sighed. “Let me ask you, if Master Chunqiu came to visit the Lin family, what would you do?”

Lin Yan pondered for a moment. “I’d probably find a way to meet Master Chunqiu and tell him I’m his fan.”

“Exactly!” Bai Feng nodded as if he had found a kindred spirit. “I thought the same. I even brought Master Chunqiu’s latest work to get his autograph. But who knew I’d be attacked by that demoness while talking to him?”

Lin Yan imagined himself in that situation, being interrupted by a demoness just when he was about to get an autograph. It was simply…

He slammed his hand on the table, gritting his teeth. “That demoness deserves to die!”

He vowed that for Bai brother’s sake, he would make the Holy Maiden of a Hundred Faces pay!

*(Holy Maiden of a Hundred Faces: “Achoo!”)*

“Alright, let’s not dwell on these unpleasant things.” Bai Feng waved his hand. “Has anything interesting happened in the sect recently?”

At this, a mischievous smile appeared on Lin Yan’s face. “Aside from some people shouting ‘Breaking into Qingzhu Peak, rescuing Senior Sister Bai, capturing Bai Feng,’ there really hasn’t been anything interesting.”

“Those people are still at it?” Bai Feng felt a bit speechless. “Am I really that much of a target? Surely no one is deliberately trying to mess with me?”

He had said it casually, but to his surprise, Lin Yan’s expression turned serious. “That’s one of the reasons I came to find you. I’ve noticed that someone is indeed stirring the pot. Unfortunately, my strength isn’t enough to identify who it is.”

“Even you can’t find out who it is, Lin brother? This seems troublesome.”

Bai Feng wasn’t too surprised; after all, he had already learned that he was being targeted by the Child of Fortune.

It was just a pity that he didn’t know who this Child of Fortune was.

This system was truly useless; it didn’t even display a name.
