Chapter 17

Grace Sawyer turned her head to glance at him, pressed her lips together, and fell silent.

David Sawyer suddenly spoke up: “What’s wrong with your sister wanting to help you? It’s not a bad thing, and it doesn’t affect you.”

Ethan Sawyer replied helplessly, “No, it’s just that the stuff is heavy as hell. How is she supposed to carry it? I also have to watch out so she doesn’t bump into anything. I’m already busy packing—how do I have the energy to look after her too?”

David Sawyer: “Then just let your sister watch you pack.”

Ethan Sawyer: “……”

He let out a breath, looked at Grace Sawyer, and said slowly, “Fine, do as you like.”

Getting his approval, Grace Sawyer immediately brightened up, her round eyes curving into crescents as she beamed, “Okay, I’ll make sure to watch my brother pack carefully when the time comes.”

“……”

-

Actually, even Grace Sawyer herself didn’t quite understand her own series of actions.

She didn’t know why she wanted to test whether Henry Bennett had a girlfriend, nor did she know why she offered to help Ethan Sawyer move his dorm.

Many signs were pointing to one thing.

But Grace Sawyer was reluctant to admit it.

Was it simply missing someone;

Or, at the age when feelings first blossom, was it an uncontrollable, never-before-felt but especially intense emotion growing deep inside her.

She wanted to let that emotion out.

But she only dared to secretly press it down in her heart.

Hiding it where no one would know.

-

The day Ethan Sawyer moved dorms was a Wednesday.

As soon as the school bell rang, Grace Sawyer immediately slung on her backpack and ran out, not even saying goodbye, leaving Julia Harper completely baffled.

Maybe because of the campus move, there were more people along the way than usual.

Grace Sawyer knew that the main campus of Nanwu University was over there, and she often passed by on her way home. Also, because Xuri Middle School was so small, their school’s sports meets were always held on Nanwu’s field.

Whenever there was a school performance, they’d borrow Nanwu University’s venue too.

So Xuri Middle School was jokingly called “Nanwu University Affiliated Middle School.”

Grace Sawyer walked to the gate of Nanwu University, stopped, and called Ethan Sawyer.

But Ethan Sawyer had completely forgotten she was coming to help, and was stunned when he got the call: “No way, you’re really coming?”

Grace Sawyer said innocently, “I’m already at the gate.”

“……” Ethan Sawyer said, “Are you at the main entrance?”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t have time to come get you right now. Come in and turn right, then go straight. You’ll see a staircase—just go up. Building 9, fifth floor, room 525.” Ethan Sawyer added, “If you’re not sure, just ask someone for directions—ask where the boys’ dorm, Building 9, is. Got it?”

Grace Sawyer obediently replied, “Got it.”

Grace Sawyer hung up and followed the route Ethan Sawyer described.

There were a lot of local students at Nanwu University.

Today, quite a few people had family members come to help, so along the way, Grace Sawyer saw many people who clearly weren’t college students, as well as other students in middle school uniforms like hers.

She walked for about ten minutes.

Grace Sawyer saw a wide staircase. The area below was open, with several buses parked and a row of cars, leaving a three-meter-wide path.

She glanced around, just about to call Ethan Sawyer again, when she suddenly noticed David Sawyer’s car parked not far away.

Grace Sawyer put down her phone and walked over.

There was no one in the car, but the trunk was open—whether by accident or for some other reason, she didn’t know.

Inside was just a stack of books and a very ugly stuffed toy.

Thinking she was heading up anyway, she decided to carry both at once. Grace Sawyer hesitated, picked up the stuffed toy, and tried to place it on top of the stack of books so she could carry them together. It would be easier that way.

She hadn’t finished the motion, her hand still holding on.

Suddenly, a shadow fell over her from behind, as if someone had come up and blocked her light.

Grace Sawyer instinctively turned around.

What met her eyes was a plain black T-shirt.

Her gaze moved upward.

Past the man’s Adam’s apple, jawline, lips, and then met his eyes, which held a half-smile.

Henry Bennett lowered his lashes, his gaze lingering on the stuffed toy in her hand for a few seconds. Then, he suddenly bent down to meet her at eye level. He curled his lips, his breath slow and lazy as he chuckled, “Where did this little thief come from?”

He was standing a bit close.

Grace Sawyer’s expression stiffened, and for a moment she didn’t know what to say.

Then, Henry Bennett pointed at her hand, raising his brows: “Why are you only stealing your brother’s things?”

He paused for a few seconds.

Then asked unhurriedly, “Have you set your sights on me?”

Chapter 8: Secretly

There was a sudden rush of wind in her ears.

It brought a faint scent of lime, mixed with a light tobacco aroma. Sunlight fell on him, outlining him in gold, adding a touch of softness.

After two months apart, Henry Bennett’s hair was a bit shorter. Grace Sawyer wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but he seemed to have grown taller. Other than that, nothing much seemed to have changed.

He was still as carefree and dazzling as ever.

Grace Sawyer’s heart gave a heavy thump.
