Hearing that name she hadn’t heard in a long time, Grace Sawyer instinctively glanced over. She picked at the remote with her finger, worried about revealing any clues, and quickly lowered her head.
She silently turned the volume down a bit.
A strange kind of nervousness welled up inside her. Her chest felt a little tight, her mind a bit blank, and her breathing seemed to grow rapid. Her attention was uncontrollably fixed on Ethan Sawyer.
“How many times have you forgotten your keys?” Ethan Sawyer said, kicking her while she was down. “Auntie definitely won’t give them to you, but if you want to go get scolded, be my guest.”
After that, he didn’t mention Henry Bennett again.
Thinking about what Ethan Sawyer had just said, Grace Sawyer suddenly had a bad association.
—He didn’t go home for Dragon Boat Festival, but that doesn’t mean he was at school.
If that’s the case, then he probably has a girlfriend.
But at this age, that’s to be expected.
Even just meeting a teacher turns into something like a mixer, so he must have one.
Anyway, it’s none of her business.
If he does, he does.
It’s not that big of a deal.
The more she thought about it, the more stifled Grace Sawyer felt. Suddenly, she threw the plastic bowl in her hand onto the table.
It landed with a loud smack.
Sitting in the dining chair, Ethan Sawyer happened to have just finished a phone call. Noticing her sudden outburst, he looked at her thoughtfully and asked, “You’re getting this worked up over a cartoon?”
Grace Sawyer turned off the TV.
Ethan Sawyer sighed, “Did Pleasant Goat get caught by Big Big Wolf again?”
Grace Sawyer finally retorted, “That’s not what I was watching.”
Ethan Sawyer wasn’t interested either. He gulped down the last of his water and reminded her, “If you’re going to keep watching, turn the TV down. I’m going to take a nap.”
“Brother.” Grace Sawyer suddenly called out to him.
“?”
Grace Sawyer scratched her head, hesitated, then blurted out, “Are you the only one in your dorm without a girlfriend?”
“…” Ethan Sawyer stared at her for two seconds, then suddenly laughed. “Kid, why are you so interested in my business lately?”
Grace Sawyer felt a little guilty. “Just asking.”
“Did Mom and Dad put you up to this?”
“I’m just concerned about you, okay?” Grace Sawyer muttered. “I heard Mom say that lately Grandma Brooks wants to set her youngest daughter up on a blind date. If you don’t have a girlfriend, wouldn’t this be a good opportunity?”
“…” Ethan Sawyer paused. “Grandma Brooks’s youngest daughter?”
“Yeah.”
“Isn’t she forty?”
Grace Sawyer blinked. “So what? With your situation, you can’t be that picky.”
“…” Ethan Sawyer wanted to curse.
But he was afraid this brat would pick it up and use it against him later.
“None of your business.” Ethan Sawyer said irritably, walking over and knocking her on the head with an empty bottle. “Do you know why none of my roommates have girlfriends?”
Grace Sawyer stayed silent.
“Because they’re all lining up to chase after me,” Ethan Sawyer said. “I only came home to escape. Got it?”
Grace Sawyer looked at him. This time, she didn’t argue, just nodded quietly.
She watched as Ethan Sawyer threw the bottle into the trash can in annoyance, got up and headed toward his room, but quickly turned back and added, “Because I’m straight.”
Grace Sawyer nodded again.
But she didn’t hear anything else he said.
All she could clearly remember were those four words from earlier.
—None of them have girlfriends.

At dinner, Ethan Sawyer was eating when he suddenly brought something up: “Oh right, Dad. After my exams, I have to move campuses, back to the main campus. Can you lend me the car then?”
David Sawyer nodded. “Do you have a lot of stuff? Should we hire a moving company?”
Ethan Sawyer: “No need, I just don’t want to squeeze onto the school bus.”
Emma Reed asked, “Main campus? Isn’t that near Zhi Zhi’s school?”
Ethan Sawyer grunted in response.
David Sawyer: “Then when you have time, you can pick your sister up from school.”
“…” Ethan Sawyer twitched his lips. “I have to babysit while I’m in college?”
Grace Sawyer was unwilling too. “I don’t need him to pick me up.”
“Better that way.” Ethan Sawyer snorted, then looked at David Sawyer and said, “It should be early next month. Lend me the Toyota, the bigger one. I’ll help one of my roommates move his stuff too.”
David Sawyer: “As long as you don’t bully your sister, anything’s fine.”
Grace Sawyer chimed in, “As long as he doesn’t bully me, anything’s fine.”
“…” Ethan Sawyer held back, “Got it.”
Hearing him mention “roommate,” Grace Sawyer felt a bit of anticipation and hesitantly asked, “Brother, which roommate are you helping move?”
Ethan Sawyer didn’t even bat an eye. “Why do you want to know?”
Grace Sawyer kept a straight face. “I want to help you move.”
“…” Ethan Sawyer paused mid-bite. Thinking he’d misheard, he started to doubt himself. “You want to help me move dorms?”
Grace Sawyer: “Yeah.”
Ethan Sawyer didn’t know what she was up to and reminded her, “You have class.”
“There’s the weekend, isn’t there? Besides, I get out at 4:20,” Grace Sawyer said. “I can come help after school, you probably won’t be done that early anyway.”
Ethan Sawyer: “Just so happens, I’ll definitely be done before 4:20.”
A clear rejection.
