Chapter 15

Grace Sawyer went home early, took a bowl of strawberries from the fridge, and lay on the sofa munching slowly. Her parents weren’t back yet, so she was home alone, with cheerful background music from the cartoon on TV.

Suddenly, the door at the entrance opened.

Grace Sawyer instinctively looked over and immediately saw Ethan Sawyer’s face.

She hadn’t expected him to come back this holiday. Grace Sawyer froze for a moment, then acted as if she hadn’t seen him, withdrawing her gaze and continuing to watch TV.

Ethan Sawyer laughed in exasperation. “Not going to say hi?”

“Why didn’t you tell us you were coming back?” Grace Sawyer said, holding a strawberry as big as her palm and taking a bite. “Mom just called and told you to cook two bowls of rice. You’d better go do it.”

Ethan Sawyer replied coolly, “I didn’t even tell her I was coming home. How could she ask me to cook?”

Grace Sawyer didn’t take her eyes off the TV, groped for her phone beside her, dialed Emma Reed, and put it on speaker. “If you don’t believe me, I’ll call her.”

Ethan Sawyer couldn’t be bothered with her and went to the fridge to grab a bottle of cold water.

The call was quickly answered, and a voice called out, “Zhi Zhi, what’s up?”

“Mom,” Grace Sawyer said calmly, “Brother’s back. Didn’t you just ask me to tell him to cook?”

Ethan Sawyer closed the fridge and looked in Grace Sawyer’s direction.

Then he heard Emma Reed on the phone pause for a few seconds before saying, “That’s right. Has he cooked yet?”

Ethan Sawyer: “……”

Grace Sawyer swallowed her strawberry, raised her voice, and said to Ethan Sawyer, “Brother, Mom wants to know if you’ve cooked yet!”

Ethan Sawyer stared at Grace Sawyer for a long moment, said nothing, and went straight into the kitchen. Seeing this, Grace Sawyer got up, walked to the kitchen, leaned against the doorframe, and peeked in. “He’s cooking now.”

After chatting with Emma Reed for a bit more, Grace Sawyer hung up. Watching Ethan Sawyer’s back, she suddenly remembered mistaking Henry Bennett for him. After a moment of silence, she blurted out, “Brother, do you have a girlfriend at college?”

Ethan Sawyer ignored her.

“No? Not even once?” Clearly interested, Grace Sawyer even stopped watching her cartoon. “I’m serious, brother.”

Ethan Sawyer turned around, sounding annoyed. “What do you want?”

Grace Sawyer said earnestly, “Do you want to get some plastic surgery?”

“……”

Ethan Sawyer almost choked. Not wanting to see her anymore, he turned away and sneered, “That guy who came home with me last time, do you remember him?”

Grace Sawyer paused mid-bite, lowered her eyes, and said slowly, “I remember.”

“He said you look like me.”

“……” Grace Sawyer was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly said, “Did I offend him?”

“What?”

Grace Sawyer pursed her lips, displeased. “If not, why did he call me ugly?”

“……”

Author’s note: Grace Sawyer’s OS: No matter what, even if people say I look like you, you’re still the ugly one.

Chapter 7 Sneaking

Ethan Sawyer held back, suddenly turned off the faucet, and flicked the leftover water from his hands onto Grace Sawyer’s face. “I’ll give you two options. Go back and keep watching your stupid cartoon, or stay here and get a beating from me.”

“Why are you mad?” Grace Sawyer wiped the water off her face, frowning. “I’m the one who got insulted, not you.”

Ethan Sawyer put the inner pot into the rice cooker without even looking up. “The door’s over there.”

Grace Sawyer didn’t move and said seriously, “Anyway, don’t go telling people I look like you.”

He turned his head and snorted, “As if I’d want to.”

With that, Ethan Sawyer pinched her cheek hard, snatched the bowl of strawberries from her hand, and walked out of the kitchen.

Grace Sawyer instinctively rubbed her face. Noticing her hands were empty, her eyes widened in disbelief. “How could you take my stuff?”

“How is it yours?” Ethan Sawyer picked one up and took a bite. “Did you pay for it?”

Grace Sawyer reached for it. “I took it out of the fridge.”

Ethan Sawyer easily held the bowl high. “It still belongs to the fridge.”

She struggled to stand on tiptoe, hopping up and down. “But once I take it out, it’s mine.”

“By your logic, now that I have it, it’s mine.”

“……”

The two of them were at a standoff for quite a while.

Just as Ethan Sawyer was about to eat his fifth strawberry, his phone rang in his pocket. He glanced at Grace Sawyer, then casually lowered the hand holding the strawberries a bit and used his other hand to check his phone.

Taking advantage of the moment, Grace Sawyer quickly jumped up and snatched the bowl back.

Ethan Sawyer gave a low grunt and answered the call. “What’s up?”

The person on the other end said something.

“I’m home. Didn’t the dorm get the power cut for a day because they found illegal appliances? I came home to escape.” He paused, then added meaningfully, “Honestly, I kind of regret it.”

Grace Sawyer went back to the TV to watch her cartoon, not wanting to deal with him.

Ethan Sawyer said lazily, “It’s fine, just had some bad luck.”

Holding the remote, Grace Sawyer turned up the TV volume.

Ethan Sawyer was completely unfazed, chatting lazily with the person on the other end. “Jack Carter went home too, right? Ask Henry Bennett—he’s not going back. But he might not be at school either.”
