Owen Grant was about to say something when the newcomer, seeing Caleb Turner approaching with a sullen face, suddenly cried out in shock, “Mr. Turner, what happened to your face?!”
Caleb Turner’s face was now swollen like a pig’s head, tinged with an onion-like purple, the area around his eyes black and blue, the corners of his mouth split open, with blood seeping out from time to time.
The newcomers immediately crowded around, offering fake sympathy.
Caleb Turner’s face alternated between green and white, his gaze venomously fixed on Ethan Clark, who stood off to the side looking unconcerned and detached. Still wanting to save face, and lacking confidence, he muttered, “I ran into a ghost in the bathroom!”
Everyone was instantly terrified, as anxious as ants on a hot pan.
“A ghost! There really is a ghost! It came out in broad daylight—what are we going to do…”
Ethan Clark let out a light snort, as if amused.
Caleb Turner heard it, and his expression grew even worse. He was trembling with rage, but intimidated by Ethan Clark’s strength, he didn’t dare retaliate, and was even afraid the newcomers would notice something, so he didn’t dare look at him openly.
Owen Grant quietly tugged on Ethan Clark’s sleeve, worried: “Mr. Clark, didn’t you just go to the bathroom? You didn’t run into a ghost, did you? Are you okay?”
Ethan Clark replied calmly, “No. If I had, with how lazy I am, I’d be dead already. No way I’d walk out alive like The Senior Turner Actor.”
“True.” Owen Grant agreed.
Caleb Turner was so angry he nearly fainted.
Over there, the secretary was impatiently calling out, “Everyone come with me to the elevator to get familiar with your posts!”
The two quickly followed.
Since Owen Grant had shown him goodwill, and Ethan Clark was always clear about favors and grudges, unwilling to owe anyone, he didn’t mind teaming up for now and lending a hand when needed.
Everyone thought it was just a routine work assignment, but things weren’t that simple.
There were seven actors in total, assigned to four different floors. Ethan Clark and Owen Grant were assigned to the fifth floor, Caleb Turner and a newcomer to the seventh, two other newcomers to the ninth, and one alone on the eleventh.
Owen Grant whispered, “They’re deliberately splitting us up, Mr. Clark. Your earlier guess seems even more likely—they obviously want to make it easier for the ghost to kill people. I’ve seen horror movies before, and the ones who die are almost always those who act alone…”
Ethan Clark remained silent.
The secretary led everyone to get familiar with their work, which was all ordinary stuff. Those who couldn’t use a computer just cleaned or organized files.
The app sent a notification—
[Plot progress updated. During work hours, actors must complete their assigned tasks. Failure to complete in a day will result in a deduction of 10 points.]
[It is currently free activity time. Official work starts at 10 p.m. Anyone not present at the company by 10 p.m. will lose 100 points and be expelled from the film.]
Owen Grant was surprised: “You only lose 10 points for not completing the task!”
Ethan Clark: “Because whether or not we finish the work doesn’t affect the plot much. The main thing is that we have to stay in the building.”
Owen Grant suddenly understood.
Ethan Clark glanced at his watch. It was now 4 p.m., six hours until work officially started.
Another notification came—
[To avoid audience impatience, the 6 hours will now be compressed to 3 hours. In 3 hours, it will be 10 p.m.]
Owen Grant was shocked: “They can do that?? That’s so unfair!”
Ethan Clark: “Time manipulation is normal in horror movies.”
Owen Grant got it.
Suddenly having free time, everyone looked lost, not knowing what to do, and all turned to Caleb Turner.
Caleb Turner snapped as if he’d eaten gunpowder: “Get lost! Do whatever you want!”
He instinctively looked toward where Ethan Clark was, only to see Ethan Clark leading the blind guy downstairs in the elevator like a father with his son.
In the elevator, Owen Grant looked up at Ethan Clark: “Mr. Clark, what should we do now?”
Ethan Clark: “Let’s walk around the whole building first to see if there’s anything off, then I’ll go out to buy some things.”
Owen Grant immediately felt reassured.
Even though he was blind, he didn’t want to just sit back and do nothing, so as Ethan Clark checked each floor, he also felt around everywhere.
When Ethan Clark reached the stairwell, he noticed the lock on the stairwell door, his gaze sharpening.
He took the elevator to check every floor and found that the stairwell doors on each floor were locked.
Normally, in a high-rise office building like this, employees wouldn’t bother with the stairs, but in case of elevator failure or an earthquake, every building must have stairs, and they’re not allowed to be locked.
But this building’s were locked.
The secretary and the female boss had both left, so the reason for the locks was unknown.
Just then, Owen Grant noticed this too. He found Ethan Clark on the first floor, standing at the pitch-black stairwell door, clearly a bit scared: “Mr. Clark, do you think there’s something in the stairwell? Like a corpse? Could the ghost be locked in there?”
Owen Grant: “I’ve heard in a lot of horror movies that ghosts have taboos. Some can only kill when the protagonist says a certain phrase, some are trapped in a certain place and can only kill if someone enters. Do you think this ghost will kill anyone who enters the stairwell?”
Ethan Clark answered without hesitation: “No.”
“Why not?” Owen Grant didn’t understand why he was so sure.
