Chapter 8

Everyone instantly felt their scalps tingle and chills run down their spines.

Caleb Turner made a snap decision, pointing at the skinny, dark-skinned new guy: "You go first."

"Why sh—" The skinny guy wisely swallowed his protest. He didn’t dare offend the only veteran actor in this horror movie; he was still counting on Caleb Turner to help him get out alive.

Anyway, since everyone would get bitten, it proved that this thing wouldn’t kill them. After all, a horror movie wouldn’t wipe everyone out right at the start.

It was just a matter of who got bitten first or last. Comforting himself with this thought, the skinny guy nervously shuffled toward the lady boss, then, under Caleb Turner’s cold gaze, slowly reached his hand into the jar.

Before he could even see what was inside, something bit him. A sharp pain shot through his finger, and he instantly howled.

Owen Grant was so scared he grabbed onto Ethan Clark’s arm, while everyone else looked ashen.

Caleb Turner’s expression was ugly as well.

That thing probably wasn’t fatal, but it hurt—a lot. Anyone would be afraid of pain.

In the spacious office, everyone was on edge, except for Ethan Clark, who kept his eyes lowered, looking absent-minded.

"Boyfriend, I’m afraid of pain," Ethan Clark said inwardly, a faint smile gradually appearing in his eyes.

A lazy, low voice replied: "Xiao Chi, you log off, I’ll take over."

Author’s note:

Ethan Clark: I can spoil myself to the heavens just by acting cute to myself.

Chapter 3 Resentful Spirit in Red (2)

"Mr. Clark, I’m so nervous..." Owen Grant, who had been clinging to Ethan Clark’s arm, now latched onto Ethan Clark’s hand like an octopus, refusing to let go.

As soon as Logan Clark came out, he saw Owen Grant’s overreaching hand. Remembering how Xiao Chi had been held earlier, his brows furrowed instantly. With a blank expression, he brushed Owen Grant’s hand away.

"Mr. Clark...?" Owen Grant called out softly, not understanding why Ethan Clark was suddenly so cold. Instinctively, he tried to grab his arm again.

Logan Clark’s voice was icy: "You can talk, but don’t touch me." Xiao Chi.

A strong sense of distance and natural superiority washed over Owen Grant, making him shiver inexplicably. He felt like a scolded elementary school student, obediently standing by the wall with his head down, muttering to himself about how many faces this guy had.

He’d been so gentle at first, but when exposing him, he’d been ruthless. And now... he was just cold.

Meanwhile, Caleb Turner was mocking the skinny guy while reaching his own hand into the jar.

Acting bold and fearless was a good way to gain fans. Newbies didn’t know this, and Caleb Turner felt secretly pleased.

The next second, the calm facade on his face shattered. He screamed, yanked his hand out, and shook his wrist frantically to ease the pain.

Losing face in front of the newbies, Caleb Turner looked even more sour and snapped, "I’ll wait for you outside. Hurry up, all of you!"

Even the only veteran actor, Caleb Turner, had suffered, so everyone else turned even paler, frozen in place, looking at each other, but no one stepped forward.

Logan Clark couldn’t be bothered to waste time. He stepped up and put his hand in.

A few seconds later, he frowned slightly.

He couldn’t see what was inside, but Logan Clark didn’t pull his hand out right away. He waited a bit.

Everyone watched as " Ethan Clark " withdrew his hand, and a gu worm rested on his beautiful, slender hand.

The creepy thing in the jar finally revealed itself. It was only the size of a strawberry, with a spider-like body covered in a shiny, metallic black shell.

On top of the spider body... was a baby’s head, about the size of a fingernail. Logan Clark was close enough to see the sparse hair on the baby’s head.

Everyone stopped breathing.

The lady boss exclaimed, "Little darling, how did you get out? Go back in!"

She then gently picked up the gu worm from the back of Logan Clark’s hand and carefully put it back in the jar.

Everyone shuddered.

The lady boss muttered to herself, "Sigh, why isn’t it as pretty as before? So dark now. It used to be colorful."

Logan Clark had finally seen the gu worm’s true form and was about to leave. At the door, he paused slightly when he heard the lady boss’s muttering, then walked out as if nothing had happened.

Logan Clark found the restroom on the first floor, washed off the black blood from the bite on his fingertip, and waited for the blood to clot. Once he confirmed there was no pain, he thought, "Xiao Chi, it’s done."

The man silently washing his hands at the sink looked up, and the face in the mirror was once again gentle and refined.

"Thank you, gege."

In the empty restroom, Ethan Clark’s voice was barely audible.

Logan Clark and Ethan Clark could communicate freely in their minds. Usually, Logan Clark would put himself to sleep so as not to disturb Ethan Clark’s thoughts, but as soon as Ethan Clark called him, he would wake up.

Logan Clark described the gu worm to Ethan Clark in his mind—Ethan Clark understood these things better than he did.

Ethan Clark was stunned: "An all-black shell?"

Logan Clark: "Yes."

Ethan Clark: "Are you sure there were no brightly colored stripes on its body?"

Logan Clark: "None. I even felt it was very weak, crawling slowly, and its venom faded quickly."

Logan Clark added, "The lady boss said her gu worm used to be colorful."

Ethan Clark was silent for a long time.
