Chapter 13

Ethan Carter was exposed on the spot by Olivia Carter, so he simply plopped down next to her and said openly, “What are you watching? Still watching that pig again?”

Olivia Carter was now the only one who knew his true feelings, so he stopped pretending and spoke much more casually.

When Olivia Carter saw him suddenly lean in, she immediately moved warily and disdainfully toward the corner, hugging her beloved iPad tightly. She looked Ethan Carter up and down, a hint of confusion appearing on her face—did his emotional color just get a bit brighter?

Ethan Carter’s heart was now deep blue, but without the hazy gray, making it look a bit clearer.

Olivia Carter: This guy is so weird, he’s happy even after being scolded?

Olivia Carter really couldn’t understand his train of thought and muttered, “None of your business.”

Ethan Carter was unfazed by the little one’s cold face. He pointed at the little pig on the screen and asked, “Is this Peppa?”

Olivia Carter: “This is George.”

Ethan Carter deliberately teased her: “What’s the difference? Aren’t they all little pigs?”

Olivia Carter rolled her eyes and gave an example: “You’re Ethan Carter, I’m Olivia Carter, aren’t we completely different?”

Ethan Carter: “Wow, you’ve got quite the vocabulary. So which one of us is the sky and which is the earth?”

Olivia Carter: “You’re the sky, you’re the earth.”

Before Ethan Carter could react, Olivia Carter rolled her eyes without hesitation and said seriously, “I’m a normal human. If you want to be the sky, be the sky; if you want to be the earth, be the earth. Just don’t drag me into it.”

“……” Ethan Carter looked at her vivid little expression, feeling like her face was just short of having “refuse to be tied together” written on it. He was both exasperated and amused.

Ethan Carter: Is this little one some kind of spirit?

Chapter 5

Olivia Carter felt her cheap older brother was truly a strange creature. Even though he didn’t like her, he still tried every possible way to strike up a conversation, asking all sorts of stupid questions. She just wanted to quietly watch “Peppa Pig,” but he seemed to have nothing better to do and insisted on hanging around in front of her.

Ethan Carter had just discovered the fun of teasing kids, and since talking to Olivia Carter was the least stressful, he naturally stuck by her side and refused to leave. Seeing the little one watching cartoons in silence, not even glancing at him, he deliberately said, “Are you mad? Now that I’m back, I’m taking away some of Mom and Dad’s attention, so you’re not feeling too good?”

Ethan Carter thought about how she hadn’t joined in at the dinner table, which made him start to care about the little one’s feelings.

Olivia Carter glanced at him in surprise. She couldn’t understand his way of thinking at all and replied flatly, “No.”

Ethan Carter: “If you’re upset, just say it. It’s not a big deal.”

Olivia Carter said seriously, “I’m not that childish. I’m not a three-year-old.”

Olivia Carter really didn’t get anxious about her parents’ attitude, nor did she feel like their affection was being taken away. Because she had a special superpower, she was very clear about how others felt about her. Her family’s emotional colors toward her hadn’t changed, so there was nothing to fuss over. When Han Ya came over for dinner, everyone focused on Han Ya, and Olivia Carter thought that was perfectly normal.

Most people have to rack their brains to guess others’ emotions and true attitudes, but Olivia Carter didn’t have that problem at all—she could see right through everyone’s feelings. Mom and Dad still loved her as always, so why should she be unhappy? Was she supposed to force them to love her a little more every day?

So, Olivia Carter found Ethan Carter’s speculation baffling and didn’t feel ignored at the dinner table at all.

Ethan Carter saw the little one acting all mature and composed, and couldn’t help but look at her strangely: “…Aren’t you a three-year-old?”

Olivia Carter replied confidently, “Please be a bit more precise. I’m already three and a half.”

Ethan Carter: “……”

Watching her put her hands on her hips and speak so proudly, Ethan Carter finally couldn’t hold it in: “Pfft.”

Olivia Carter frowned slightly at this, looking at him in confusion.

Ethan Carter tried hard to keep a straight face, but he was still amused by her childish words and admitted, “Sorry, but it really is kind of funny…”

Ethan Carter: She even insists on counting the half year—does she want to be accurate to two decimal places?

Ethan Carter didn’t feel attacked at all. He was genuinely amused by “a three-and-a-half-year-old seriously insisting she’s not three,” and laughed so hard he got the hiccups, completely losing his composure. He hadn’t expected his sense of humor to be so easily triggered, but the little one’s serious manner was just too funny.

Grace Bennett passed through the living room and saw her eldest son laughing so hard he couldn’t straighten up. She said gently, “Olivia Bennett, are you having so much fun with your brother?”

Grace Bennett had originally worried that Ethan Carter would still be as sharp and rebellious as he was five years ago, always clashing with the family. But now it seemed she’d been overthinking it. Since her eldest son came home, he seemed much more easygoing and no longer as stubborn as before.

Olivia Carter said sincerely, “He’s gone crazy.” She really didn’t understand what he was laughing at and seriously suspected her cheap brother was intellectually challenged, laughing like a maniac for no reason.

Grace Bennett smiled and said, “Then you two have fun.”

Olivia Carter didn’t dare get close to Ethan Carter anymore, afraid she’d catch the stupidity virus and end up giggling nonstop herself. She shrank further into the sofa, putting more distance between herself and Ethan Carter, not wanting to pay him any more attention.
