Chapter 14

"First: No wandering at night.

Second: No fighting or brawling between patients.

Third: Absolute obedience to the orders of medical staff."

The head nurse spoke coldly: "If you attempt to break the rules, at best you'll be put in solitary confinement, at worst you'll be subjected to forced treatment. It all depends on the severity of your condition. Trust me, you won't want to try them one by one."

No one in the cafeteria made a sound; it was as quiet as a grave.

"Very good, you’re much more obedient than the last group of patients admitted."

Clearly, this attitude satisfied the head nurse, and a rare smile flickered across her harsh face.

"Cooperating with our treatment is only beneficial for your own condition. I’m glad you can understand that."

The newcomers clustered around Messiah were already trembling like leaves, not daring to ask where the previous group of patients had gone.

"Alright, now that the rules are clear, line up to take your medication."

The head nurse waved her hand, and the nurses behind her stepped out of the shadows one by one, each carrying a bottle of pills, distributing tablets and water to the trainees in the cafeteria.

The trainees exchanged glances in private.

Matthew Green whispered to him, asking what they should do.

Henry Clark didn’t reply.

The white-haired young man brought the pill close to his nose and sniffed it, frowning slightly.

To take it, or not to take it?

There was no label on the bottle; they had no idea what the medicine was. But judging from the dizziness and weakness they felt upon waking, it was most likely a sedative or antipsychotic commonly used in psychiatric hospitals.

Unknown drugs in a mysterious and suspicious hospital—anyone could tell it was best not to take them. Besides, they weren’t even mentally ill.

As if guessing what the trainees were thinking, the nurses stood there, distributing pills while fixing each person with sharp, watchful eyes, determined to see them swallow before handing out the next dose.

If you didn’t take it, you’d be breaking the third rule. No one wanted to be the first guinea pig to experience the head nurse’s solitary confinement.

One nurse said impatiently, "Hurry up, don’t waste time."

Everyone hesitated for a moment, then each tried their own tricks.

Glasses secretly looked up to watch Messiah tilt his head back and swallow the pill with water.

Unfortunately, because of the angle, he couldn’t tell whether Messiah had actually swallowed the pill.

The nurse watching Messiah finally looked away, her gaze landing on Glasses.

That look sent a chill down Glasses’ spine, and he hurriedly shoved the white pill into his mouth, shivering.

"What else can we do? Just take it."

On the other side, Henry Clark’s fingers moved almost imperceptibly, tossing the pill directly into his mouth.

After everyone had finished swallowing, the head nurse suddenly ordered, "Roll up their sleeves, open their mouths, lift their tongues."

It’s over.

Glasses’ heart skipped a beat. With no water left, he forced himself to swallow the pill dry with his saliva. Many others in the cafeteria did the same. The worst off was a trainee who was so nervous he jumped, coughed repeatedly, and accidentally spat out the pill, which rolled onto the floor mixed with saliva.

That trainee’s face was now as pale as the nurses’.

The head nurse sneered and waved her hand. A group of burly orderlies appeared out of nowhere, grabbed the trainee by the feet, and dragged him away without a word, disappearing into the dark hallway.

【Damn, this kind of force is terrifying...】

【Honestly, in horror games like this, the first one is always made an example of. Poor guy, probably not coming back.】

【This instance isn’t simple. They’re pulling out the big guns right away. Now I’m really curious what kind of medicine the head nurse gave them.】

【Replying to the one above, it’s probably Luminal, chlorpromazine, or some other antipsychotic.】

Moments later, the trainee’s screams in the hallway were abruptly cut off, followed by the heavy sound of an iron door being locked.

That was solitary confinement.

The cafeteria was silent; no one spoke.

Seeing her warning had worked, the head nurse nodded in satisfaction, announced free time, and turned to leave.

Not all the trainees who entered this place had gathered in the cafeteria; a few had chosen to explore directly. Presumably, the nurses would have to deliver medicine to those people as well.

Henry Clark stared at the white hem of the nurses’ uniforms disappearing into the darkness, then suddenly curled his lips and opened his palm.

Like a magic trick, a perfectly intact white pill lay quietly in his hand.
