Chapter 4

Before the man could finish speaking, he stared in shock as the door slowly opened.

The door that yesterday had remained completely unmoved despite the seven of them working together—knocking, pounding, kicking, ramming, trying every method—was now lightly pushed open by the white-haired young man’s slender, jade-like hand, making a creaking sound.

Hearing the noise, Charles Bennett turned around impatiently, his face lighting up with joy. “The door’s open!”

But the joy lasted only a few seconds before his tone turned suspicious. “We tried for so long yesterday and couldn’t open it. How did you just pull it open?”

The rest of the dorm immediately chimed in. They sat together, tightly clustered around Charles Bennett, clearly forming a distinct group.

Perhaps because Henry Clark had seemed out of place from the start, several people looked at Henry Clark with obvious suspicion.

But Henry Clark couldn’t be bothered to say more, just tossed out a single sentence.

“If you don’t want to die, you’d better do as the voice says.”

Everyone in the dorm was startled, and for a moment, no one replied.

Not because they didn’t dare, but because they couldn’t.

For some reason, when they saw those pale pink eyes that seemed devoid of any emotion, all they felt was a chill down their spines, a creeping sense of dread.

Just after Henry Clark turned to leave, that cold mechanical voice sounded again.

[Only ten minutes left until assembly time. If you fail to reach the designated location within the allotted time, you will bear the consequences.]

The group finally snapped out of it, realizing their backs were drenched in cold sweat.

“Ugh, what a show-off, acting all mysterious!”

One of them spat, “I bet this whole thing has something to do with that pretty boy. He must know something. Otherwise, why were the rest of us running around in circles while he didn’t react at all?”

“Exactly, and talking about life and death. There are so many of us—murder is a crime, you know! All he does is try to scare people!”

Charles Bennett rolled his eyes even more dramatically. “What bad luck. Whatever, the door’s open, let’s go.”

The group left the dorm. None of them mentioned the scene where Henry Clark had thrown out that cold warning.

Outside was a long corridor, lined on both sides with identical iron doors, stretching so far that the end couldn’t be seen.

Just like them, many others had already discovered the doors were open.

People who had been trapped for a day and a night surged out, jostling and cursing.

“Why are there so many people?”

“Where is this, what’s going on?”

“Who’s playing this prank?”

Countless people looked at each other in confusion.

After being locked up for so long, fear had already spread among the crowd. Every face was filled with anxiety.

“Hurry over here, there are stairs this way.”

Charles Bennett immediately spotted the staircase in the middle of the corridor. He looked relieved and quickly called back, “Come on, let’s get out of here.”

“Coming, Mr. Bennett!”

The staircase was cold and monotonous, with a sign hanging on the smooth wall beside it. A group crowded in front to read it.

Seventh Floor: S-Class Student Dormitory

Sixth Floor: A-Class Student Dormitory

Fifth Floor: B-Class Student Dormitory

Fourth Floor: C-Class Student Dormitory

Third Floor: Auditorium

Second Floor: Cafeteria

First Floor: Main Hall

Basement 1: D-Class Student Dormitory

Basement 2: E-Class Student Dormitory

Basement 3: F-Class Student Dormitory

......

Current location: E-Class Student Dormitory

Someone asked in confusion, “What does this sign mean? Student dormitory?”

“Damn, what the hell is going on here!”

After seeing the sign, a burly man cursed loudly, “Are we still underground? Do we have to go upstairs?”

Everyone simultaneously recalled the mechanical voice that had just sounded in their ears.

Everything was becoming more and more mysterious.

Charles Bennett snorted coldly. Suddenly changing his mind, he crossed his arms and sat directly on the steps. “Trying to act all mysterious. I don’t believe it—there’s still law and order in this world, isn’t there?”

Seeing so many people outside actually made him feel more at ease.

At first, Charles Bennett suspected it was obsessive fans or robbers who had kidnapped them, but now, seeing so many people, he finally relaxed.

This was definitely a public incident, enough to explain his absence from scheduled events and unexplained disappearance.

“All right, all right, just sit down and wait.”

“But, but Mr. Bennett, that broadcast...” someone behind him asked uneasily.

“What broadcast? They’ve already let you out, what are you afraid of? If you really want to stay here, then stay.” Charles Bennett interrupted impatiently. “There are so many of us—what could whoever brought us here possibly do to us?”

Many in the crowd recognized Charles Bennett. Maybe it was the effect of his attitude, but they all echoed, “Exactly!”

Charles Bennett was currently one of the hottest young stars in the country, a cash cow for his company. His agent would definitely call the police right away.
