Chapter 4
The atmosphere in the restaurant was rather strange.
The veterans paired up and stuck together, while the newcomers were mostly scared out of their wits, just hoping to find someone strong to rely on.
Halfway through the meal, quite a few people with their own little schemes had already approached the veterans, trying to curry favor.
Glasses was one of them.
Before entering the infinite loop, Glasses was just an ordinary office worker, following the rules, diligently completing his boss’s assignments and work, never thinking of breaking the law.
But now, he had entered this unpredictable, perilous trainee horror competition, not only unable to return, but also at risk of losing his life.
Because he had spent years in an office, Glasses was flabby and weak, with no skills besides his job. His rating, just like his bottom-tier job in the real world, was only F. If he couldn’t get a score above E in the next evaluation, it would still mean death.
No one wants to die, and Glasses was no exception. So after entering the first round, he started making his own plans.
After the nurse opened the door, he immediately scrambled up to the restaurant upstairs, quietly observing everyone who entered.
Sure enough, waiting in ambush paid off—Glasses got a fairly comprehensive understanding of the trainees in this round.
There were two people wearing S-rank badges, three A-ranks, more than a dozen B-ranks, even more C and D-ranks, but the majority were E and F-ranks like him.
One of the S-ranks, with long black hair, looked cold and indifferent, an icy aura surrounding them.
The other S-rank, a blond big shot, smiled as warmly as a spring breeze. Even in a hospital gown, he couldn’t hide the aura of holiness about him.
Before Glasses could muster the courage to approach, he saw a few other E and F-ranks with the same idea beat him to it, carrying their trays over to the two S-ranks.
Adam Grant didn’t even lift his eyelids, just put down his chopsticks without a word, scaring those newcomers so much their legs trembled.
Unexpectedly, the other blond big shot didn’t respond coldly to the newcomers’ obvious intentions. Instead, he smiled understandingly.
“You’re all newcomers, right? I’m Messiah, just call me that.”
Maybe this big shot’s easygoing manner put the newcomers at ease, so they immediately started chattering and introducing themselves. Glasses, after watching for a while, thickened his skin and joined in.
One by one, they expressed their fears and their utter confusion about the current situation.
Messiah didn’t interrupt, just listened quietly, and only nodded in approval after the last person finished: “Indeed, most of the high-ranked trainees are survivors who have lived through the infinite loop for a while. You’re all newcomers, and throwing you into the trainee selection without giving you a chance to grow is really too cruel.”
“Don’t worry.” The blond young man’s expression was gentle. “This is just the first round. If there’s anything I can help with, I’ll do my best to help everyone.”
Where the trainees couldn’t see, the onlooking bullet comments filled the screen with cries.
[Wuwuwu, the Holy Son is still so gentle, I’m in tears]
[He really lives up to his name, like a savior rescuing everyone from disaster, 55555]
[I’m about to cry seeing this. Last time I got super lucky and met the Holy Son in a dungeon, and he saved me, a total noob, and gently comforted me. Wuwuwu, he’s truly a good person in this era]
“...The Holy Son is still the same as ever.”
Brian Cooper took a bite of sausage. “Those newcomers are obviously just trying to cling to someone strong, deliberately exaggerating things.”
As he said this, a rich newcomer was loudly promising that as long as Messiah protected him, he’d reward him with a seven-figure sum after returning. Messiah could only laugh and repeatedly say it wasn’t necessary, that it was just a small favor.
Edward Foster glanced over disinterestedly. “He’s always been like that.”
Among the top ten trainees, aside from that one, Messiah was the most popular.
Because he was recognized as the great good guy in the infinite loop.
Many veteran survivors had once been newcomers, and many of them had received Messiah’s kindness when they were new, and quite a few had repaid him in kind.
In a world as strange and dangerous as the infinite loop, such a personality was truly rare, and it was easy for him to become a spiritual leader. The title of Holy Son was given to him out of respect by the survivors.
