Chapter 14

At the start, it was the hero ban phase. Ryan Cooper didn’t ban any heroes at all, just left it empty, which was like saying, “I’m not afraid of any hero.”

He looked up and saw his teammate had banned Zed.

You’re playing top lane, why are you banning my mid lane hero?

Ryan Cooper frowned and was about to ask, when he saw under the ID “Mr. Turner宇宙无敌” the words: Jungle.

Ryan Cooper asked, “You’re not playing top lane?”

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌: Got bored of it]

Ryan Cooper responded with an “Oh.” A few seconds later, all the banned heroes from both sides were displayed.

Zed, Yasuo, LeBlanc, and Talon were all banned.

[Feed King #1: Is 4th pick Soft?]

Ryan Cooper glanced at the ID. It was unfamiliar; he didn’t know them.

[Just watch my plays: ?]

[Feed King #1: All the heroes you can play are banned. Otherwise, want to swap roles with me? You play support?]

[Just watch my plays: I know more heroes than you’ve ever played]

[Feed King #1: …]

Ryan Cooper was the last to pick a hero. While waiting, he tabbed out to reply to a message, and when he came back, everyone else had already locked in their picks.

He glanced at the team comp and picked Syndra.

[Feed King #1: You’re picking Syndra into Fizz? The enemy is going to hard counter you.]

[Feed King #1: You’ve played so many low elo games, can you even handle Diamond promos? This is my last promo game, do or die, don’t throw for me, bro.]

Maybe the promos had gotten to him, but this support was especially chatty. Not just Ryan Cooper, even the others found it a bit annoying.

But to be fair, the support wasn’t entirely wrong. In terms of matchups, Syndra does have a tough time against Fizz in lane.

But this was Ryan Cooper—after so many years playing mid, he knew the ins and outs of trading better than anyone. He farmed up to level six without losing out at all, and even had ten more CS than Fizz.

After another round of trading, Ryan Cooper instinctively wanted to call for a jungle gank, but stopped himself as soon as he opened his mouth.

He decided not to make things hard for their new jungler.

Just then, a signal suddenly sounded—[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 is on the way.]

In the game, players can send a few simple signals, and “XX is on the way” is one of them, indicating to teammates that you’re heading over. Only then did Ryan Cooper realize their jungler, Lee Sin, had already snuck into the river near the enemy’s outer turret.

The moment Fizz used his mobility skill, Lee Sin ward-hopped out from the river and kicked Fizz right in front of Ryan Cooper. At the same time, Ryan Cooper quickly used his sphere-push skill to stun the enemy, and together with Lee Sin’s damage, they secured the kill.

It was a standard combo, but every skill from both of them landed perfectly, clean and precise, leaving the enemy mid no way out.

Three hundred gold in hand, Ryan Cooper recalled to base and bought items: “Come again. If you come, I can get another kill.”

“David Parker” didn’t reply. But for the rest of the game, the team chat was filled with these messages—

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 is on the way.]

[Just watch my plays is on a killing spree. (Three kills in a row)]

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 is on the way.]

[Just watch my plays is dominating the game. (Six kills in a row)]

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 is on the way.]

[Just watch my plays is godlike! (Eight kills in a row)]

After killing another enemy, Ryan Cooper cockily recalled right next to the enemy’s high ground. He glanced at the chat box in the lower left corner and suddenly laughed: “Are you imitating Road?”

All the fans knew that when Road streamed ranked games, he never typed to his teammates, just silently carried all three lanes. The only interaction was the “on the way” signal, so some fans called him “Road God” not just because of the “Road” in his name.

Plus, Road’s signature champion was Lee Sin. He’d wowed the world with this champion at Worlds, and every time he started a fight or escaped, the audience was on the edge of their seats.

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 (Lee Sin): .]

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 (Lee Sin): No.]

As they pushed into the enemy base, Ryan Cooper generously praised, “You play jungle really well.”

Brian Carter was just about to type.

“You’re better at jungle than top,” Ryan Cooper said. “Maybe you should switch roles?”

“……”

“David Parker” was quiet for a while.

[Mr. Turner宇宙无敌 (Lee Sin): I’ll think about it]

After the game ended, Ryan Cooper got up to use the bathroom. While washing his hands, he stared at the stream of water, recalling Lee Sin’s plays—he hadn’t been exaggerating earlier. Even though it was just Diamond rank, from tower dives to teamfights, all the little details showed that David Parker’s Lee Sin was something special.

Every single gank felt just right to Ryan Cooper; wherever he needed him, he was there, and he even managed to gank and invade the enemy jungle at the same time.

Back from the bathroom, Ryan Cooper put his headphones back on: “I’m back. All-nighter tonight?”
