Chapter 10

The car was very quiet.

Grace Turner also knew that Chad Sullivan had a temper problem, so she usually wouldn’t try to provoke him.

Chad Sullivan was driving, and after a long while, a soft and sweet voice came from the back: “Let me off at the next stop.”

That voice was like the sweetest honey, and also like the gentle water of a southern ancient town from childhood. But the tone was distant and cold.

Chad Sullivan gripped the steering wheel tighter and suddenly let out a laugh: “You’re really not blind, huh.”

As he spoke, he stepped on the gas, and the bus stop flashed past before their eyes. Only then did Ethan Carter start to panic a little, holding her horizontally placed white cane, feeling uneasy. She hadn’t provoked him—why did he dislike her so much?

Ethan Carter looked at Emma Clark beside her, and Emma Clark didn’t dare make a sound.

No joke, a bad temper is scary.

If he really lost it...

The group got off at Xiaogang City.

Outside, the sound of rain was constant, and in the blink of an eye, the street was thoroughly soaked. Night fell, and the city’s neon lights flickered.

The three big characters for Xiaogang City glowed with dazzling purple light.

Ethan Carter got off and stood at the entrance. Xiaogang City was quite far from her home, and she didn’t even have enough money for a cab back.

Chad Sullivan hung the keychain on his index finger: “Top student, go in and have some fun.”

He was telling them to go in and play, not asking for their opinion.

A few burly security guards at the entrance all recognized him and bowed, calling him Young Master Jiang. Chad Sullivan’s smile was a bit cold at the corners of his lips, and the back of his hand still hurt. Wasn’t it because they looked down on him? He just had to play with them.

Ethan Carter also knew he wouldn’t give up until he got what he wanted, so she could only go in with Emma Clark.

Grace Turner looked at Ethan Carter with suspicion and uncertainty. The girl behind her leaned in and whispered, “Grace, don’t worry. I just asked Brian Foster, and he said that blind girl hit Chad Sullivan. Besides, she’s so ugly and blind, Chad Sullivan would never like her.”

Only then did Grace Turner’s expression improve a lot.

Compared to the slight chill outside, Xiaogang City was much warmer inside.

Ethan Carter had never been to a place like this.

In her memory, most of her time with Chad Sullivan was after her eyes had healed. He was always chasing after her, never caring about being rejected. In her previous life, Chad Sullivan would never have forced her to come to Xiaogang City just to please her.

Warm yellow lighting, luxurious and soft sofas.

Several gaming controllers on the table. In the private room, there were microphones, red wine, billiards—everything you could want.

There were also dishes and pastries on the big table.

The group ate first.

“Brother Chad, let’s have a drink!”

Chad Sullivan clinked glasses with him.

The dinner table was lively, except for Ethan Carter and Emma Clark, who felt completely out of place.

Chad Sullivan looked at Ethan Carter. She was eating quietly, obviously uncomfortable, but sitting very properly.

Most of the girls at the table would claim to be full after just a little food. She quietly finished a whole bowl while they were drinking, then put down her chopsticks and said nothing more.

She had a certain aura about her.

It made people envious, but also made them want to destroy her.

Chad Sullivan was the first to curl his lips into a smile: “Let’s play a game. Loser gets a punishment.”

As soon as he spoke, everyone agreed enthusiastically.

It was a simple game: count off in turn, and when it’s seven or a multiple of seven, clap your hands. The game moved very quickly.

Chad Sullivan glanced at Ethan Carter, calculated her position, and called out sixteen for himself.

The boy after him quickly clapped.

When it was Ethan Carter’s turn, it should have been twenty-one. But she didn’t realize she was supposed to participate in the game. Chad Sullivan lit a cigarette and leaned back: “Top student, go draw a punishment.”

There was a big box right next to her.

Ethan Carter said softly, “I didn’t know I was supposed to join.” She hesitated, and under everyone’s gaze, gently clapped her hands. “Does this count?”

The room fell silent for a moment, then Brian Foster nearly burst out laughing: “I’m dying, oh my god.” Who the hell claps dumbly several minutes late?

Grace Turner and the others couldn’t stop laughing either.

Alan Bennett looked at Chad Sullivan through the haze of smoke. There was a twinkle of amusement in Chad Sullivan’s eyes as well.

“Nope, go draw a slip and take your punishment. Can’t handle the game?”

Ethan Carter’s cheeks turned red, and she realized a beat too late how ridiculous her clapping was.

She could also tell that Chad Sullivan was messing with her and had no intention of letting her off.

She hesitated, but finally, amid their jeers, she pulled out a slip of paper.

Ethan Carter saw the words on it and was stunned for a while.

A girl next to her snatched it and read aloud: “Make eye contact with a member of the opposite sex here for ten seconds.”

Now everyone thought, this is going to be interesting.

Ethan Carter was blind, after all.

This kind of flirty little game would make anyone feel awkward.

Brian Foster saw her face not even looking the right way: “Whoa, whoa, don’t come over here!”

Everyone was laughing so hard their shoulders shook.

Emma Clark’s eyes turned red, realizing that she and Tingting were being humiliated. She gritted her teeth: “You guys are going too far.”

Chad Sullivan glanced over lightly, and Emma Clark immediately fell silent in fear.

Chad Sullivan rested his hand on the sofa, legs stretched out, and stubbed his cigarette in the ashtray: “Come here, classmate. They’re all afraid of you, so I’m the only one left.”

Ethan Carter didn’t know who pushed her, but when she turned around, several girls were covering their mouths, laughing. Only Grace Turner didn’t look too happy.
