Chapter 7

Fortunately, there was no need for fans in autumn, but these facilities made everyone feel a huge gap.

After all, the neighboring vocational high school had long since installed air conditioning and heating.

They enjoyed comfort, while in summer it was hot and in winter it was cold for them—no one else had it this bad.

This is exactly the difference between the rich and the poor.

After the first class, something happened at school.

There was a commotion outside, and Ethan Carter sat on the bench. After a while, Emma Clark came in, her face excited with gossip: “Grace Turner from Class 14 is transferring to the neighboring vocational high school. She’s not even attending classes anymore. Guess why?”

Ethan Carter’s heart skipped a beat.

Why? What else could it be, of course it was because of Chad Sullivan.

Sure enough, Emma Clark said, “She’s actually doing it for a boy at the vocational high school. You see how proud she usually is, with her school beauty title, looking down on everyone. Now she’s actually fighting with a vocational high school girl over a boyfriend. Isn’t that hilarious?”

Amy Cooper, who sat behind them, overheard and chimed in, “That’s because that boy has quite a background.”

News traveled slowly at No. 7 High, and Chad Sullivan had enrolled at Licai Vocational High in September. He was making a name for himself over there, but the good students at No. 7 High barely knew about him.

Emma Clark rolled her eyes, unable to hide a bit of that good-student superiority: “How impressive could he be, is he going to the moon or something?”

Amy Cooper shrugged. “He’s pretty close. You know Junyang Group, right? The biggest real estate company in the country? He’s from that family.”

Emma Clark: “…Damn.”

Amy Cooper, always at the forefront of gossip, couldn’t help but add, “Last week he sent his homeroom teacher to the hospital during class, and he’s still at school like nothing happened. With someone like that, it’s no wonder Grace Turner is interested.”

When you’re young, being arrogant is a kind of capital.

Many classmates gathered around. “Why did he hit the teacher?”

“Wow, he’s got guts, even dares to hit a teacher.”

“Is being rich that great? So arrogant, one day society will teach him a lesson.”

“So what, if he doesn’t work hard, he’ll just inherit the family fortune.”

Everyone laughed and told each other to get lost.

Amid the noisy chatter, Ethan Carter suddenly stood up.

Emma Clark quickly asked, “Tingting, where are you going?”

Ethan Carter frowned. This had nothing to do with her, but she knew. The current school beauty Grace Turner was going to look for someone—her younger sister, Lily Brooks.

She didn’t want to get involved with Lily Brooks anymore, but Dad Brooks’s instructions from that morning still echoed in her ears.

Dad Brooks was getting old, and his health was getting worse. Sometimes, working in the lab, he’d get careless and radiation would take its toll. He’d spent his whole life worrying about his children; you could say he died for Ethan Carter.

Ethan Carter turned back and said to Emma Clark, “I’m not feeling well. Can you help me ask the teacher for leave?”

Emma Clark nodded quickly.

Ethan Carter walked to the school gate, but the guard wouldn’t let her out. She rarely lied, but thinking of everything that would happen if she didn’t intervene, she pointed to her eyes: “Uncle, my eyes are uncomfortable.”

The guard recognized her—she was the famously well-behaved and inspiring girl at school—so he let her out right away.

It was much easier to get into the neighboring vocational high school; the gate was basically useless. When Ethan Carter reached the door of Class 8, Grade 2, the classroom was in an uproar.

Grace Turner hadn’t come alone; she had her group of girlfriends with her.

Lily Brooks was stubborn too. As Ethan Carter walked in, she heard her say, “So what if you’re Chad Sullivan’s girlfriend? Everyone knows he didn’t even show up for your birthday two days ago, and in the end, he just tossed you a wallet.”

Grace Turner thought highly of herself, but she could fight too: “Even if he doesn’t care about me, I’m still his official girlfriend. How old are you to be stealing someone else’s boyfriend? Don’t you have any manners?”

The people around cheered.

The official girlfriend and the mistress fighting in person, all for the popular figure Chad Sullivan. It was quite a show.

When Ethan Carter came in, everyone’s eyes fell on her.

Her blind-girl outfit was just too eye-catching. She bypassed the crowd, grabbed Lily Brooks, who was about to retort, and pulled her out of the classroom. Lily Brooks was angry: “What are you doing here? I know what I’m doing, go back and study.”

The scrutinizing looks from others made Lily Brooks feel ashamed, as if they were saying, “Your sister is blind, huh?”

Ethan Carter’s expression was calm: “Dad Brooks told me this morning that he’s very worried about you. It hasn’t been easy for him to raise us.”

Lily Brooks frowned, wanting to argue back.

“Even if you beat Grace Turner, how will others treat you? Chad Sullivan doesn’t even care about Grace Turner, do you think he’ll care about you?” Ethan Carter said. “About you asking me to help you play the piano—do your friends know? Can you guarantee they won’t tell anyone?”

Only then did Lily Brooks look startled.

She hadn’t gone home last night, and many people saw her go looking for Chad Sullivan. Out of vanity, the next day rumors spread that Chad Sullivan liked her and took her out all night, and she didn’t deny it. As a result, Grace Turner came looking for her.

Lily Brooks hesitated, “They won’t tell, right?” But in the end, she was still worried. After she went back, she kept a low profile and told Grace Turner, “That’s just a rumor. I slept at Sarah Green’s house last night, she can vouch for me.”

Sarah Green nodded.

“Exactly, just look at yourself,” Grace Turner sneered, finally letting it go.
