Chapter 12

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: [Aggrieved] So this account really did change hands.

Chris Brooks was momentarily stunned, only then remembering to open his friends list. He’d been busy with other things since logging in and hadn’t had time to check it at all.

Sure enough, Energetic Little Mosquito was right there in his friends list.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: ...How do you have this account on your friends list?

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: I did quests with the original owner.

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: I just watched your gameplay, and honestly, she couldn’t have played like that.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: ...

So you were friends with the original owner, but you still PK’d him and even asked him for money?!

...He really should have just taken all that 2,000 gold earlier.

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Are you a guy?

Chris Brooks’s anger instantly vanished.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: Ah 0.0! What makes me look like a guy? [Punches your chest]

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Uh. It’s just rare to see a girl play this well.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: You’ve got it wrong, your skills really aren’t that great. Lots of girls could totally beat you up, you know. [Cute]

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: ...

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Sigh, honestly, I didn’t want to kill you just now, but I saw an elite team from 闲人阁 doing quests nearby. You were bound to get spotted, so I figured I might as well earn the money. Plus, think about it, that team has five people—even if you’re good, you couldn’t take them all. So really, I saved you!

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: Alright then, now that the misunderstanding’s cleared up, let’s just peacefully delete each other and be grateful for the experience.

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Wait, wait, I still have something to tell you.

Chris Brooks took a sip of water.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: Go ahead.

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Look, now that 闲人阁 has put a bounty on you, you really can’t use this account anymore. Why not make a big profit off them before you sell it?

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: ?

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Take off your gear and let me kill you. We’ll split the bounty fifty-fifty, how about it?

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: ??

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: ...Okay, how about seventy-thirty?

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: [Smile]

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: Eighty-twenty, at least let me earn a little, sis.

[Friend] Little Sweet Chris: Sure, but if I accidentally kill you and your gear drops, you can’t blame me. [Pokes fingers together]

[Friend] Energetic Little Mosquito: ...Fine, just pretend I never said anything. [Waves handkerchief]

——

A few days after moving into his new place, Chris Brooks finally found time to go to the supermarket.

He couldn’t just leave the house empty, so after picking out some daily necessities, he wandered over to the food section.

Chris Brooks’s mother was a chef, so he’d grown up around cooking and had no problem making simple home-style dishes. Plus, he’d promised Brian Carter and the others that once he was settled, he’d invite them over for a meal.

Brian Carter called: “Where are you, Chris?”

Chris Brooks actually didn’t like being called Chris—it sounded like a girl’s name—but no matter how much he threatened or pleaded, they never changed, so he just let them be.

“Food section. You guys wait for me at the checkout.”

After paying, Brian Carter and Ethan Foster automatically took the bags.

“Chris, did you buy or rent this place? It doesn’t look like anyone’s ever lived here.” Once at Chris Brooks’s place, Brian Carter looked around.

“Rented. It’s a new place, no one’s lived here before.” Chris Brooks casually put on an apron. “You guys just wait outside, you can turn on the TV.”

Chris Brooks whipped up a few simple dishes. After one bite, Ethan Foster couldn’t help exclaiming, “Damn! Chris, if you’d told me you could cook like this, why would I need a girlfriend? I should just marry you!”

Brian Carter: “If you want to marry him, you’d better ask our department beauty if she agrees. She’s had her eye on Chris for ages.”

Chris Brooks didn’t banter with them. Halfway through the meal, he suddenly paused and looked at Ethan Foster: “Hao’er, let me ask you something.”

Ethan Foster wiped his mouth. “Go ahead.”

“What kind of girls do you like?”

Ethan Foster froze, his expression odd, and immediately clarified, “No... Chris, I was just joking earlier. I’m totally straight!”

“Relax, even if I wanted to date a guy, it wouldn’t be you.” Chris Brooks said. “I mean... you’ve had a few online relationships, right? In games, what kind of girls do you like?”

“Oh.” Ethan Foster thought for a moment. “Girls with sweet voices, who act cute, and can sing.”

Brian Carter commented, “So basic!”

“Tch, what do you know? You’re going to die single, stuck on your childhood friend.” Ethan Foster shot back.

Chris Brooks ate quietly. Come to think of it, he seemed to fit all three?

With a voice changer, sweet voice was no problem; acting cute... he could learn; as for singing, back in middle school he loved the spotlight—he’d even competed in the school’s Top Ten Singers and won third place.

After chatting for a while, Brian Carter suddenly changed the subject: “By the way, Chris, after we eat I can’t help you wash the dishes. I have to rush back to the dorm—I’ve got a 7 o’clock appointment with my guild to kill the God of War.”
