Old Jack's eyes revealed a trace of melancholy. He sighed and said, "Yes! Only the inheritors of the major sects have the easiest chance to become soul masters. For ordinary people like us, it's just too difficult." Shaking his head, he walked out of the Spirit Hall.
The young man's gaze fell on the eight children in front of him. As a patrol deacon of the Spirit Hall, helping ordinary people awaken their martial spirits was his duty, something he had long grown accustomed to. "Children, stand in a line." His attitude toward these children was much gentler.
The eight children stood in front of the young man, with William Carter at the far left. Compared to children of the same age, he was a bit thinner and smaller.
The young man smiled and said, "My name is Edward Collins, a level twenty-six Grand Soul Master, and I will be your guide. Now, I will awaken your martial spirits one by one. Remember, no matter what happens, don't be afraid."
As he spoke, Edward Collins opened his bag on the table beside him and took out two things: six pitch-black round stones and a shiny blue crystal ball.
Edward Collins arranged the six black stones on the ground in a hexagonal shape, then signaled for the first child on the right to stand inside.
"Don't be afraid, close your eyes and feel carefully." As he spoke, Edward Collins's eyes suddenly lit up. In the children's startled gazes, he shouted in a low voice, "Lone Wolf, Possession!"
A faint blue light first emerged from the center of his brow, rising upward along the brow and entering his hair bun.
Edward Collins's hair, originally black, instantly turned gray as the blue light infused it, and it quickly grew longer. Hair of the same color appeared on his exposed hands, and his body seemed to swell much larger than before, filled with muscular strength.
The special uniform of the Spirit Hall was very elastic and did not burst despite his increased size. Edward Collins's eyes had turned a deep green, and the claws extending from his ten fingers glinted with a faint cold light. Two rings of light appeared at his feet, circling from his feet to the top of his head. One was white, the other yellow—strangely eerie.
The child called to stand among the black stones was a boy. Seeing Edward Collins's transformation, he immediately screamed, "Ah—" and tried to run away in fright.
The green glow in Edward Collins's eyes was indeed terrifying. He grabbed the child and said, "Don't move. I told you not to be afraid, this is my martial spirit, Lone Wolf. If any of you become soul masters in the future, you'll also use similar abilities."
The only one who wasn't too scared was William Carter, but even he immediately circulated his energy throughout his body when Edward Collins began to change.
Compared to surprise, William Carter felt more curiosity. Gray hair appeared on the body, green eyes—these were indeed wolf traits. Could it be that after martial spirit possession, a person becomes a wolf? No, that's not right; it should be that one gains the abilities of a wolf. So, the profession of soul master must be about better utilizing the power of the martial spirit.
For the first time, William Carter found himself interested in the profession of soul master. He was now eager to know what his own martial spirit would be.
Edward Collins quickly slapped his hands, sending six faint green lights into the six black stones on the ground. Instantly, a layer of golden light radiated from the stones, forming a pale golden barrier that enveloped the child inside.
Chapter Two: Useless Martial Spirit and Innate Full Soul Power (Part 3)
For some reason, as soon as the child who had been crying was enveloped by the pale golden light, he immediately calmed down and stood there in a daze.
One by one, golden specks of light floated out from the black stones on the ground and entered the boy's body.
The boy's body began to tremble slightly. He wanted to cry out, but no sound came.
"Stretch out your right hand." Edward Collins's deep green eyes stared at the boy, commanding with authority.
The boy instinctively stretched out his right hand. Instantly, all the specks of light surged forth, and in a flash, a sickle appeared in his palm.
It looked as if the sickle was not an illusion, but truly existed.
Edward Collins frowned slightly. "It's a tool martial spirit. Can a sickle be used as a weapon? I suppose it barely counts."
The golden light gradually faded. The boy looked at the small sickle in his hand in surprise, not knowing what to do.
Edward Collins said, "Your martial spirit is a sickle, a tool spirit. Come, let me test if you have soul power. If you do, even a tool spirit can be cultivated as a battle soul master. After all, a sickle does have some attack power."
"M-Master, what should I do?" the boy asked timidly.
Edward Collins replied calmly, "Use your mind to retract your martial spirit. In the future, when you want to use it again, summon it with your mind."
The boy tried for quite a while before finally retracting the sickle. Edward Collins handed him the blue crystal ball, signaling him to place his right hand on it.
The boy's small, tender hand and Edward Collins's wolf claw were positioned above and below the crystal ball, making for a striking contrast.
