Megan Reed is a newly signed singer at Xingyao and asked Henry Clark for a song. Strictly speaking, Henry Clark isn’t really a professional singer; most netizens consider him a top-tier celebrity. The main reason people ask him for songs is probably for the hype.
However, Henry Clark genuinely loves music, and anyway, if you dare to ask, he dares to write.
“Alright, go prepare. If possible, let’s go to Robert Hill’s place tomorrow and talk about the arrangement.”
Henry Clark gave an OK sign over his shoulder and was about to leave when Jack Lee remembered something and called him back: “The web drama the company invested in wants you to sing the theme song. Interested?”
“Not interested.”
“If you hadn’t said I should check with you about any music-related projects, I would’ve turned it down right away. The female lead in that drama is Emily Bennett. If you sing the theme song, who knows what kind of drama Sarah Cooper will stir up again.”
Henry Clark frowned as something occurred to him: “Is it that BL drama?”
“Yeah, I don’t know what Sarah Cooper is thinking. Whoever takes the female lead in this drama is bound to get roasted.”
“Hasn’t she always been like this?” Henry Clark sneered. “As long as it gets attention, she doesn’t care if it’s good or bad.”
“That girl Emily Bennett…” Jack Lee sighed, “She’s really pitiful. If she’d been under my management, things wouldn’t have turned out like this.”
Henry Clark waved his hand. “I’m off.”
After two cups of coffee in the morning, he headed to the restroom first. Just as he reached the door, he overheard two employees talking inside.
“I could hear them from outside the door. It was pretty intense.”
“This is the first time I’ve seen Emily Bennett talk back to Miss Cooper in public. Didn’t people say she’s usually scared of Miss Cooper in private?”
“Scared of what? Neither of them is a pushover. If they actually fought, it’d be a show.”
Henry Clark walked into the restroom expressionless. The two employees exchanged glances and fell silent. After he finished, he headed straight for the elevator and pressed B2.
The elevator went down, stopping at the ninth floor. The doors slowly opened, and Emily Bennett was standing outside, looking furious.
She must have been really angry—her cheeks were still flushed from the confrontation, her eyes still burning with anger, her brows raised high, her whole face looking a bit… fierce.
James Foster stood behind her, trying to reason with her: “Sister Olivia, don’t be like this. Falling out with Miss Cooper won’t do you any good…”
Emily Bennett snapped, “To hell with ‘doing me good.’”
She looked up and saw Henry Clark in the elevator.
For a split second, Henry Clark felt like the volcano in front of him was suddenly covered in snow, and in the melting snow, a sunflower with a smiling face bloomed.
She looked at him, her eyes lighting up, the corners of her mouth curving, her voice brimming with barely contained tenderness and joy: “Henry Clark!”
That was the kind of smile you give when you see the person you like most in the world.
Author’s note: Emily Bennett: My husband is so handsome, wuwuwu
Chapter 3
Henry Clark nodded in response and stepped aside to make room for Emily Bennett. She walked into the elevator, staring at him without blinking, as if missing even a second would be a loss.
Those eyebrows, those eyes, that nose, those lips, that neck, that Adam’s apple—wuwuwu, every part is perfect.
What kind of world-shattering beauty is this? Which immortal has descended to the mortal world to tempt my human heart? His looks are on point again today!
Mom! This is the one! Your daughter wants to marry him!
Inside, Emily Bennett was fangirling so hard she didn’t even realize her lovestruck expression was making Henry Clark seriously uncomfortable.
What’s with that look, like she can’t wait to strip him bare?
Before, Emily Bennett had been harshly scolded by Henry Clark’s fans and knew what her team had done to him. Partly out of guilt, partly because of his unapproachable aura, she always wanted to run away whenever she saw him.
But today, what, did she eat a leopard’s gallbladder? No wonder she dared to stand up to Sarah Cooper.
James Foster couldn’t take it anymore and tugged Emily Bennett’s arm, calling her, “Sister Olivia, let’s just go back. The contract’s already signed—even if you don’t want to act, you’ll have to talk to Miss Cooper and see how to minimize the losses.”
Emily Bennett finally snapped out of her fangirl daze.
Right, the most important thing now is figuring out how to get out of that BL drama. Henry Clark will always be around—he’s not going anywhere.
She’d come to the company today planning to have a proper talk with Sarah Cooper about the pros and cons of taking the BL drama, to see if there was any way to back out. Who knew that as soon as she brought it up, Sarah Cooper would start yelling at her, forbidding her from interfering with work plans.
Emily Bennett had at least been in fandom circles before, so she knew a thing or two about the industry. Managers and artists are supposed to have a mutually beneficial relationship—she’d never heard of a manager being so domineering, treating the artist like a puppet to be manipulated at will.
She wasn’t exactly mild-tempered herself, so she slammed the table and exploded on the spot.
Sarah Cooper immediately lost it. This dumb little bunny had never said no to her before, and now she was defying her in front of assistants and staff? She was asking for it!
She threw the contract in Emily Bennett’s face, her tone brooking no argument: “You’ll act in this drama whether you want to or not. You have no right to negotiate with me!”
So Emily Bennett shot back, “I’m not acting. Worst case, I’ll quit the industry,” and stormed out.
