Alice Carter didn’t react right away. After hesitating for a moment, she asked, “What did you just call me?”
“Miss Sheng.”
Alice Carter suddenly shivered, goosebumps instantly crawling all over her body. She struggled to ask again, “Sheng what?”
“Emily Bennett. Miss Sheng, are you still feeling unwell anywhere? I can call a doctor for you.”
Alice Carter rolled her eyes and fainted.
When she woke up again, there was a woman with gold-rimmed glasses sitting by her side. The woman had a thin face and high cheekbones—clearly a formidable character. Alice Carter opened her eyes and, upon seeing her, didn’t even want to speak.
After fighting with Emily Bennett’s team for so many years, how could she not recognize her agent, Sarah Cooper?
Sarah Cooper saw she was awake, frowned, and asked in a not-so-gentle tone, “Feeling any better?”
Alice Carter closed her eyes and turned her head away, not wanting to deal with her.
Sarah Cooper gave her a push. “Anywhere else uncomfortable? You’ll be discharged soon. All the necessary tests have been done.”
A thousand wild horses were galloping through Alice Carter’s mind. She managed to squeeze out a few words: “Can you leave first? I want to be alone.”
“Emily Bennett, I worked so hard to get you that talk show spot, and it’s going to be recorded in an hour. Are you sure you still want to be alone?”
Alice Carter: “……”
This must be a dream, it’s a dream. Oh God, I don’t want to become the person I hate the most!
Alice Carter squeezed her eyes shut and shook her head desperately. Sarah Cooper grew impatient and yanked off her blanket.
“Emily Bennett, did you get knocked silly? Do you know how much effort I put into getting you that talk show? And now you say you’re not going?” Sarah Cooper said irritably. “Get up, go wash your face, Grace will be here soon.”
Grace is Emily Bennett’s stylist.
Alice Carter still hadn’t accepted the reality. “I don’t…”
One fierce glare from Sarah Cooper shut her up. Now she finally understood why Emily Bennett’s team was so hard to deal with—this agent was just too damn fierce.
Grace soon arrived, lugging a three-tiered suitcase. “Qiaoqiao-jie, are you okay? I heard you were in a car accident, I was scared to death.”
As she spoke, Sarah Cooper came in from outside and handed her a document. “Here are the questions the host will ask tonight. Go over them again.”
Alice Carter clutched the document. Sarah Cooper got angry at how slow she was moving and yelled, “Didn’t you hear me tell you to memorize them quickly? I’ve already told you about this year’s branding plan—get used to your new persona! If you mess up, just see what I’ll do to you!”
Alice Carter held back her breakdown and reluctantly flipped through the document.
Time was tight, so Grace only put on a light layer of makeup for her. When she went to the bathroom, she stared blankly at the face in the mirror—the face she used to hate the most.
The face was truly small, palm-sized, with great skin, bright and clear, beautiful but not seductive. If it weren’t for the past scandals, this would probably be the kind of first-love face that appeals to both men and women.
Outside, Sarah Cooper shouted, “Are you done? Hurry up and come out, we’re leaving.”
……
Resigned, Alice Carter followed them to the studio.
Her mind was a blur during the recording, but thankfully the host was very skilled. She just recited the answers she’d memorized, and the show was finally completed without a hitch.
There were no schedules for the next two days. Sarah Cooper lectured her with a stern face for a bit, then had the assistant take her home.
Once in the car, Alice Carter slumped in the back seat, closed her eyes, and carefully went over everything that had happened today.
All her senses told her this was real.
She really had become Emily Bennett.
She didn’t know why any of this had happened, but for now, the most important thing was to find a way to turn back. The car sped along and took her to where Emily Bennett lived. After entering, closing the door, and turning on the lights, Alice Carter was startled by the apartment’s decor.
The room was just too empty. Aside from the necessary furniture, there was nothing else, giving off a cold and sterile vibe.
She looked around. The place had two bedrooms and two living rooms, not very big, simply decorated—really not like a place a female celebrity would live in.
After looking around, she changed clothes, put on a hat and mask, and went out to hail a cab.
She gave her own home address.
The The Carter Family wasn’t exactly a wealthy clan, but they were definitely well-off. Mr. Carter had started in real estate years ago, and The Carter Family was now a well-known property group in China. Mrs. Carter was a famous traditional Chinese painter, but due to congenital frailty, she’d been wheelchair-bound for years.
Alice Carter also had an older brother, a law graduate who was now a renowned economic lawyer.
Everyone in the family was outstanding—except her, who was obsessed with chasing celebrities.
It was all tears to talk about, and it was all Henry Clark’s fault for being too charming.
The car soon brought her home.
Alice Carter hurried inside, but after just a few steps, she was stopped by security. In a high-end community, all visitors had to register, especially at night when she was wearing a hat and sunglasses.
Alice Carter had no choice but to take out her ID and fill in the visitor information. The security guard glanced at it a few times and muttered, “Emily Bennett? Isn’t that the actress?”
She didn’t dare look up and quickly went inside.
Familiar with the way, she walked to her own house—a standalone villa. There was a light on at the door, the living room lights were on inside, and the curtains were half drawn, just enough to see the scene inside the room.
