Chapter 18

The students below all perked up, eyes wide open, ready to see just how well Brian Walker could control the mech.

Although Brian Walker's grades were average in previous years, last year she performed outstandingly—even Edward Harris Sr. from the neighboring class was no match for her, making it hard not to look forward to her performance.

“I heard that the first time Edward Harris Sr. did a practical, he managed to walk the mech around the playground.”

“A whole lap?! He’s that insane?”

“Well, his perception is A-level, so he has an advantage piloting a B-level mech.”

“Brian Walker should be stronger than Edward Harris Sr..”

“Definitely.”

……

Brian Walker sat in the pilot’s seat, put on her helmet, and immediately felt the current passing through her temples. She glanced over the control panel in front of her, every button function that Peter Thompson had just explained firmly memorized. She tried each one, and the mech would occasionally transform its arms into blades or cannon barrels.

These moves weren’t anything special; the students before her had all tried them.

Brian Walker closed her eyes, breaking down the mech’s structure in her mind. There were some things she couldn’t quite figure out.

If only she could take this mech apart.

Brian Walker opened her eyes regretfully, then tried to make the mech walk forward.

“Hey, it’s moving, it’s moving!”

A sharp-eyed student pointed excitedly at one of the mech’s feet—Brian Walker really was impressive.

Peter Thompson saw this and immediately smiled, but the next second, his smile froze.

‘Bang——’

Brian Walker and the mech both toppled to the ground.

The room fell silent. Everyone: “……”

After a moment, someone finally spoke: “Haha, that move was bigger than anyone else’s. Must mean she’s really skilled.”

The others: “……” No need to hype Brian Walker up that much.

Peter Thompson frowned and forcibly opened the cockpit, only to see Brian Walker collapsed inside, completely motionless.

“Brian Walker, Brian Walker!”

“Huh?”

In a daze, Brian Walker heard someone calling her and instinctively responded.

“Come out first.” Peter Thompson’s face was dark, and seeing Brian Walker like this, he couldn’t help but have a bad feeling.

He’d taught plenty of students and had seen those with low perception but strong physical abilities, but Brian Walker… he really hoped this wasn’t the case.

Brian Walker groggily crawled out, turned to look at the fallen mech, then turned back to Peter Thompson and said, “Teacher, sorry.”

“What’s wrong with you?” Peter Thompson asked.

Brian Walker rubbed the spot on her head where she’d hit it, then her stomach. “I’m a little hungry.”

It was the first practical class today, from early morning to night. Everyone was so engrossed in watching the trials that they didn’t even want to go to the bathroom, let alone eat.

Peter Thompson: “……”

He took a deep breath, turned to the other students, and said, “Go eat. If you still want to watch Brian Walker operate after eating, come back.”

With that, Peter Thompson pulled Brian Walker out.

He took Brian Walker to a restaurant and ordered a table full of dishes.

“Teacher, buying nutrient solution is more convenient and cheaper,” Brian Walker said reluctantly. Besides, the price of this table of food could buy several meals from the teacher’s wife.

“Enough with the nonsense.” Peter Thompson’s mind was racing with several guesses. He looked at Brian Walker seriously. “Eat your fill, then try again later.”

“Okay.”

When the table of dishes arrived, Peter Thompson barely touched any of it, only saying, “You eat. If you can eat it all, go ahead.”

Brian Walker didn’t think much of it and ate heartily, clearing the table and letting out a satisfied burp.

Peter Thompson and Brian Walker returned to the training ground. All the students were already there, eager to see Brian Walker pilot the mech again.

After eating, Brian Walker no longer felt dizzy or faint. She re-entered the mech cockpit and made the mech stand up.

“Whoa——”

The students couldn’t help but shout in unison.

This wasn’t just about making the mech move—when the mech stood up, it first used its arms as support on the ground, then slowly rose to its knees and stood up. Pulling off this series of movements required balance.

This was talent. This was the difference perception made.

Brian Walker was definitely A-level!

Peter Thompson watched the mech start to walk, his expression complicated.

Ten minutes later, Brian Walker came out.

The classmates immediately crowded around—some congratulating her, some asking for tips. Brian Walker answered a few before Peter Thompson called a stop.

“Today was the first practical, so everyone came. But next week, students will take the practical in batches, so everyone will get more time to operate. Alright, go home for now.”

After the students left, Peter Thompson patted Brian Walker, who was waiting nearby. “Let’s go.”

After washing up at home, Brian Walker was about to go to bed when Peter Thompson called her. He hesitated, looking at Brian Walker.

“Teacher?”

“Brian Walker, I think you might be able to achieve something at the Five Great Military Academies in the future.” As Peter Thompson said this, his gaze was a bit complicated.

He had always hoped Brian Walker could get into the Five Great Military Academies, but that was all. For any ordinary person, getting in was already a huge honor, not to mention how many talented people were inside.

Brian Walker replied matter-of-factly, “Teacher, don’t worry. If I get into the Five Great Military Academies, I’ll definitely get good results.”
