Chapter 1

Ethan Carter is good at everything—top-notch looks and grades—but when it comes to feelings, he's so dense it's exasperating.

Even when a marriage contract falls from the sky, he doesn't feel much, only knowing he must remember his role and fulfill the agreement.

On the wedding day, he's still apologizing for his friends' teasing.

"Sorry, Mr. Lu, they don't know the situation. I hope you don't mind..."

His partner lowers his eyes to look at him: "I don't mind."

Ethan Carter breathes a sigh of relief, thinking the rumors were wrong—the other party isn't that unapproachable after all.

Until that night, when he doesn't sleep a wink.

The next day, Ethan Carter forces himself to stand on shaky legs, his voice hoarse from crying, and asks, "Let me confirm again, we're getting divorced after the contract ends, right? That kind of task from last night only needs to be done once, right?"

The man, about to reach out and massage his waist, narrows his eyes, his voice low and terse: "No divorce. Not just once."

Ethan Carter: "..."

He looks at the man with shadowed eyes, finally breaking his usual obliviousness and sharply sensing danger: "Or maybe we should clarify the divorce first..."

The next second, his nape is pinched.

"Ning Ning."

The man calls him by his nickname, his breath completely enveloping him.

"You didn't look at me this seriously even when we got married."

"And last night wasn't a task."

Chapter One 001

The weather is turning cooler, and Yan Garden is gradually settling from its lush greenery. As the autumn wind rises, each ginkgo tree sways gently, spreading waves of dazzling gold, painting the whole campus with the heavy, mottled feel of an oil painting.

The medical school is located on the northeast side of the campus. When the class bell rings, the quiet and serious classroom relaxes, and students chat in small groups, their topics almost all revolving around the upcoming midterm exams.

Someone raises their voice to ask the professor sitting by the podium, "Teacher, what's the focus for this midterm exam?"

The teacher, holding a thermos cup, takes a slow sip of hot tea and smiles kindly: "Except for the preface, everything is important."

"Ah—?!"

The classroom erupts in wails.

The four people from Dorm 404 sit in the same row, unable to hold back their complaints.

"As long as you pick the right major, every final feels like the college entrance exam. And it's not even finals yet!"

Dorm leader Liam Bennett sighs. Although he's the oldest of the four, he has a baby face. He flips through his notes haphazardly, his little face scrunched up, and turns to ask the second oldest at the next desk, "Brian, how many chapters does Internal Medicine IV cover?"

"Old Liu said last class, but I didn't remember." The second oldest adjusts his glasses and seeks help from the next desk, "Ethan, do you remember?"

Known as the dorm's walking memo, Ethan Carter doesn't disappoint: "Thirteen chapters."

"Oh, right." Hearing this, Liam Bennett manages to recall some scattered memories. "Doesn't Surgery IV also cover up to chapter thirteen?"

Ethan Carter shakes his head: "Fifteen."

The second oldest frowns: "Why so many? I thought only Pathology covered fifteen chapters."

Ethan Carter chuckles, his smile tinged with a bit of self-mockery: "Actually, Anatomy III also covers fifteen chapters."

Second oldest: "??!"

Liam Bennett grabs his hair, on the verge of collapse: "Why so many!! I can't even remember the exam scope, how am I supposed to take the test!"

The second oldest slumps onto the desk: "As the saying goes—Physiology and Biochemistry, you're bound to fail at least one. Pathology and Pathophysiology, a nine-in-ten chance of dying... I'm done for, I give up."

Ethan Carter looks at the two of them, amused, and shakes his head: "I'll organize the exam scope for all eleven subjects later and send it to the dorm group."

The two immediately change their tune, moved to tears: "Ethan, Brother Ethan! You're my lifesaver!"

As the three are chatting, two girls walk over, one of whom is the department's goddess. She stops by their desk, tucking a strand of her softly curled, fluffy long hair behind her ear, and a light, sweet perfume drifts over.

The department beauty places two notebooks on the desk, pushing them toward Ethan Carter. She presses her lips together, a shallow dimple appearing at the corner of her mouth: "Yu He, thank you for your notes."

Ethan Carter takes the notes and smiles: "You're welcome."

He's actually strikingly beautiful, even to the point of being a bit sharp, and with his fair, cool skin, he stands out even more in a crowd, making him seem even harder to approach.

But his gentle personality and refined demeanor soften much of the impact from his looks, making people feel comfortable enough to reach out.

At this moment, his smile makes it even harder to resist feeling moved.

The department beauty blushes a little, says, "Your handwriting is really pretty," and then hurriedly pulls her friend away.

Once the two girls walk off, giggling quietly, Liam Bennett, who watched the whole thing from the side, quietly pokes Ethan Carter, unable to hold back his gossip: "Hey Ethan, does the department beauty have a thing for you?"

Ethan Carter is looking for paper to write the exam scope, and looks a bit confused when he hears this: "What? I don't think so, she just wanted to borrow my pediatrics notes."

"With her top ten grades, she still needs to borrow notes?"
