Chapter 8

Senior came to check the room, and Grace Lee pretended to be surprised: "Oh no, I forgot, our teacher called her out for something, she should be back soon. Senior, how about this, I'll have her go to you to clear her leave when she returns."

"Alright, then you two go to bed early," Senior said.

After seeing Senior off, Grace Lee sighed, "Isn't Evelyn Baker way too bold? Out on a date this late and still not back."

Samuel Clark put down her phone, the intimate scene between the two from earlier that evening flashed through her mind, and she felt as if her heart was tangled up, unable to breathe. She lowered her lashes. "She should be back soon."

She didn't really want to continue this topic, so she looked at the empty bed opposite and said, "I heard the new roommate is coming tomorrow."

Samuel Clark had registered rather late, which is why they were assigned to the same dorm, and there was still one empty bed. She'd heard that this student had taken a month off for some reason and would only arrive tomorrow.

"I heard she's from the veterinary medicine department, that's so nice, saving little animals. If I'd known, I would've chosen that major too. My brain must've been waterlogged to pick such a tough major like clinical medicine. It's only been a month and my hair's already falling out. By the time I graduate, I'll have to change my name to Samuel Lee." Grace Lee said.

"Then... should I order you some hair growth serum?" Samuel Clark asked tentatively.

"Yes, yes, kamsahamnida!" Grace Lee made a heart gesture at her.

Samuel Clark burst out laughing, her earlier gloom lightened a bit. The two were chatting when Evelyn Baker pushed the door open and came in. Grace Lee told her about the leave clearance, and Evelyn Baker seemed in a good mood, even thanked Grace Lee.

The next day, the new roommate arrived, followed by two people carrying her luggage. The new roommate wore sunglasses and was dressed head-to-toe in designer brands. The two boys behind her were about to come in.

The new roommate wagged her index finger and said seriously, "You stinky men think you can just walk into a girl's boudoir?"

The two boys froze, not sure whether to go forward with the luggage or back out. The new roommate pulled out a few red bills from her bag and handed them over, saying cheerfully, "Just leave it at the door."

"Alright, Miss Hu, we'll be off then."

Only Samuel Clark was in the dorm. She happened to be reading, and when she heard the noise, she closed her book and walked over. "Let me help you."

After the two of them dragged the luggage in, the new roommate took off her sunglasses, instantly breaking the sense of distance, and introduced herself: "Hi, I'm Sophie Hill from Veterinary Medicine (Class 3), you can call me Sophie."

Only then did Samuel Clark get a good look at her. She had cartoonish blunt bangs, big eyes, baby fat cheeks, and was a bit chubby—she looked cheerful and cute.

"Clinical Medicine (Class 1), Samuel Clark. You can call me whatever you like," Samuel Clark said.

It was Sophie Hill's first time living away from home, so she was a bit clumsy packing her things. When it came to putting on the duvet cover, she ended up crawling inside the sheet, cursing as she tried, but still didn't manage to get it on.

Samuel Clark couldn't help but laugh, patted her, and said, "Let me help you."

Once Samuel Clark took over, the duvet cover was on in no time. After tidying up the dorm, Samuel Clark accompanied the new roommate to register for a campus card and buy daily necessities.

Throughout the whole process, Samuel Clark didn't complain once, and Sophie Hill immediately took a liking to this girl who looked gentle but was so organized.

From then on, Sophie Hill became the invisible human accessory next to Samuel Clark, always calling her "Sui Sui" this and "Sui Sui" that, and even painfully shared her idol's nude photo with her, claiming—under her idol's witness, she had made a good friend.

Samuel Clark smiled; she liked Sophie Hill too—cheerful and cute. The two of them gradually became close.

On Friday, Samuel Clark and Grace Lee were eating in the second cafeteria. She was thinking about Sophie Hill, who hadn't eaten yet in the dorm, so she messaged her to ask what she wanted, planning to pack some food for her.

After sending the message, Samuel Clark put down her phone and focused on eating. After a while, Grace Lee nudged her arm excitedly and lowered her voice: "Damn, look, Evelyn Baker's boyfriend just showed up."

"Shit, Jason Harris."

Samuel Clark stiffened, mechanically looked up, and spotted him at once in the noisy cafeteria. Evelyn Baker's boyfriend was standing in line with her. After Evelyn Baker got her food, she turned around with her silver tray.

The boy was on her left, hands in his pockets, looking casual. Evelyn Baker kept glancing up at him, her eyes shining like stars when she spoke to him. The boy lowered his head, not sure what she said, but he tugged at the corner of his mouth in response.

Suddenly, someone brushed past and almost bumped into Evelyn Baker. The boy quickly raised his hand, put his arm around her shoulders, and frowned, telling her to watch where she was going.

Samuel Clark felt a sourness in her stomach and couldn't eat anymore. She lowered her eyes, chewing her rice tastelessly.

The two found a seat, which happened to be diagonally in front of them. Samuel Clark could only see his side profile.

Grace Lee kept sneaking glances at the two. The boy was so outstanding that he quickly drew the attention of passersby.

Grace Lee watched and sighed, "Look, Evelyn Baker's mouth is practically grinning to the back of her head. But honestly, if I found a boyfriend that handsome and awesome, I'd be over the moon too."
