On Thursday afternoon, Evan Carter came out of the editing room and went to the restroom.
After leaving the stall, she happened to run into her teammate Lynn Walker.
Lynn Walker had been with the "Transmission" column group for three years, was a few years older than her, and had a sweet appearance and voice. She had taken a day off on New Year's Day, and since she often arrived late and left early, Evan Carter felt like she hadn't seen her in a long time.
Evan Carter took the initiative to greet her.
Lynn Walker looked at her through the mirror: "Hey, Little Evan, what shade is your lipstick? It looks really nice."
Evan Carter replied instinctively, "I’m not wearing any today, but the shade I usually use is—"
"Aiya!" Before she could finish, Lynn Walker interrupted her, saying coyly, "Come on, we're all women here, let's be real, okay? If you want to ask me about my makeup brands, I can tell you too."
After saying that, without waiting for a response, Lynn Walker walked out of the restroom in her high heels.
Evan Carter stood there in confusion, looking at the mirror, then hesitantly rubbed her lips with the back of her hand.
"……"
She really wasn’t wearing any.
Back in the office.
Evan Carter returned to her seat. Lynn Walker's desk was diagonally behind hers, and at the moment, she was half-sitting on her desk, turning to talk to Grace Brooks, who sat next to Evan Carter.
Grace Brooks had joined the company at the same time as Evan Carter; they were about the same age and got along fairly well.
Evan Carter smiled and asked, "What are you talking about?"
Grace Brooks: "We're talking about Sister Lynn and her boyfriend’s New Year’s Eve."
"Oh, just chatting." Lynn Walker waved her hand casually, "I just got lucky, happened to have New Year's Day off, so I spent the night with my boyfriend at Huaizhu Bay. Had a candlelight dinner, soaked in a hot spring, he even transferred me 5200 and 1314, but honestly, we didn’t do much, it was pretty boring."
"I really envy you, Sister Lynn." Grace Brooks forced a smile and changed the subject, "By the way, Evan, aren’t you moving? Have you found a new place yet?"
Lynn Walker looked surprised and immediately asked, "Hey, Little Evan, you’re moving?"
Evan Carter: "Yeah."
"What a coincidence!" Lynn Walker jumped up, looking delighted, "I’ve been worried about this lately. My previous roommate in our shared apartment quit her job and went back to her hometown, and I haven’t found anyone suitable to live with yet."
Evan Carter was momentarily stunned, not quite reacting.
Lynn Walker: "Do you want to consider my place?"
Grace Brooks chimed in, "Where do you live, Sister Lynn? Evan wants somewhere close to the office."
Lynn Walker: "Shangdu Huacheng, it’s really close."
Evan Carter knew this neighborhood; it was very close to where she currently lived, and she passed by it on her commute. It was built in recent years and was considered one of the more upscale complexes in that area.
Grace Brooks glanced at Evan Carter and asked, "Besides you, are there any other roommates?"
"No, no, just me." Lynn Walker patted Evan Carter on the shoulder and smiled sweetly, "Don’t worry, I won’t bring random people home. If we really become roommates, we can talk about any house rules before moving in."
"If you’re interested, after work today, you can come check out the place with me—" At this point, Lynn Walker paused and corrected herself, "Oh, wait, actually, let’s do it tomorrow. I’m going to the movies with my boyfriend tonight."
Evan Carter replied, "Sure, let’s do it tomorrow then."
……
While Lynn Walker was in the break room.
Grace Brooks came over, looking a bit worried: "Are you really going to live with her? I think she’s kind of annoying, always going on about her new rich boyfriend. And I feel like she’s always a bit passive-aggressive with you because you’re good-looking."
Evan Carter more or less understood Lynn Walker's personality.
She wasn’t malicious, just a bit spoiled and chatty, but neither of those were big issues for her. Most of the time, Lynn Walker was pretty easy to get along with.
She blinked and said gently, "I’ll check out the place first."
-
After work the next day.
Evan Carter and Lynn Walker took the subway together to Shangdu Huacheng.
The place Lynn Walker lived in was a three-bedroom apartment, but the landlord only rented out two rooms. One small room was used by the landlord for storage and was always locked. The remaining rooms were a master bedroom with an en-suite and a secondary bedroom.
So the rent was relatively lower.
But overall, it was very nice, with a kitchen, dining room, balcony, and all the necessary amenities.
Lynn Walker had always lived in the master bedroom.
Evan Carter glanced at the secondary bedroom.
The room was spotless, not a speck of dust on the desk.
Lynn Walker said from the side, "Since I’m in the master bedroom, I pay a bit more rent than you. You’d pay 2000 a month, and we’d split the utilities evenly. Does that sound okay?"
This price was a bit higher than the shared apartment she’d lived in before, but still within her acceptable range.
And the conditions were much better in every way.
Evan Carter didn’t say anything, still thinking it over.
"Take your time." After all, moving was a big deal, so Lynn Walker didn’t rush her for an answer. She checked the time, "It’s getting late, let’s go grab some dinner, I’m starving."
