Chapter 15

“Theoretically it’s feasible, but we’ll definitely face a joint boycott from the major manufacturers, and they might even sue us for spreading rumors.” Ryan Carter frowned. If they wanted to get into this business, they’d have to prepare in secret and collect evidence to sue the manufacturers at the right time—strike first to gain the upper hand.

“Hmm... Actually, I’m not good at hardware either, but I have a better idea.” Ethan Bolton kept them guessing, waiting for his little wife to ask out of curiosity. However, Mr. Carter just calmly lifted her chin at him, signaling for him to go on.

Having spent the past few days constantly watching over the CEO with a broken brain, Ryan Carter was already used to observing his mood at all times. At this moment, she clearly saw a hint of disappointment in his eyes, and for some reason, she asked, “What’s your good idea?”

Sure enough, the little disappointment vanished instantly, replaced by absolute confidence in his professional field, radiating an indescribable charm: “A manual memory-clearing app.”

The function of clearing memory existed in old computer applications. Back then, computers weren’t so smart, they slowed down easily, and you often had to manually clear the memory to keep the system running. As technology advanced, this menial task was handed over to the system itself.

“In the future, if anyone gets their brain knocked out of whack again, just have their wife manually clear it for them.”

The black Maybach from the accident still wasn’t repaired, so the two of them had to keep carpooling to work.

“Do you still need me to play secretary today?” Ryan Carter asked leisurely from the passenger seat.

Ethan Bolton parked the car under the Banana Building, looking sheepish. “No, no need. I’ll pick you up after work.”

“Really? Then who’s going to bring you tea, organize your files, and relieve your... mm...” Before she could finish, the embarrassed CEO kissed her, making her laugh out loud. She kissed him back, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car.

Ethan Bolton rested one hand on the steering wheel, watching his little wife’s tall and handsome figure walk away, stroking his chin. He wondered if it was just his imagination, but his little wife seemed a bit more attached to him lately.

This realization made the CEO suddenly happy, and the silver Maserati swayed its way toward Shifei Technology.

The employees noticed that Mr. Carter hadn’t come along, and the whole building’s atmosphere subtly shifted. To put it simply, it was like those thirty seconds after the finance department hit the “bonus payout” button at year-end—suppressed excitement about to burst forth.

“Good morning, President!”

“Morning, everyone.” Ethan Bolton nodded to the overly enthusiastic employees at the elevator, then stepped into his private elevator. The secretaries were already waiting at the door to the president’s office, but all three kept their heads down, staring at their toes, only looking up to greet him in unison when he exited the elevator.

“……”

Life was back on track, but the aftereffects of the past few days still needed to be dealt with—like Mr. Carter Sr. demanding they come home for the weekend.

“The clinic appointment is in the afternoon, so we can go home at noon. But, Dad doesn’t seem too happy.” Ryan Carter reminded her husband.

“It must be that bastard James Thompson tattling on us.” Ethan Bolton said firmly.

Mr. Carter Sr., whose name is Aaron Carter, was one of the first entrepreneurs to get rich, and he’s good friends with James Thompson’s father.

“So...” Ryan Carter blushed a little. James Thompson had seen what happened that day, and she had no idea what he’d tell the elders.

“It’s fine, leave it to me.”

To avoid a lecture from his father-in-law, Ethan Bolton went to the villa’s wine cellar and dug out a treasured bottle of red wine—a 1992 Royal Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon.

At the Jiao family home, the lady of the house wasn’t back yet. Mr. Carter Sr. sat alone in the living room drinking tea, his face expressionless. Ryan Carter’s mother was an actress, quite famous in her day. Thanks to good maintenance, she still had plenty of roles waiting for her, always playing beautiful mothers or aunts, and was often away from home.

“Dad, this is for you.” Ethan Bolton headed straight for his father-in-law as soon as he entered.

“Hmph.” Aaron Carter glanced at the bottle of Eagle, responding with an unreadable expression.

Ethan Bolton wasn’t intimidated by his father-in-law’s cold face. He sidled up and whispered in Mr. Carter Sr.’s ear, “I learned a new trick—pouring red wine on a white shirt... Heh, Yan Yan was mad at me a while ago, so I pulled him into the office to play this game, and it worked like a charm.”

Mr. Carter Sr. was momentarily stunned.

Ethan Bolton looked perfectly serious, and while Ryan Carter wasn’t paying attention, he winked at his father-in-law, the meaning clear: when Mom gets back, you two should try it too—you’ll love it.

So that’s how it is. Mr. Carter Sr. understood, laughed heartily, and tapped Ethan Bolton’s head in the air, pretending to scold, “You rascal, always up to something.”

In just a few minutes, the tension between father and son-in-law melted into cheerful conversation. Ryan Carter watched from afar, unable to suppress a gentle smile. When they first met, Ethan Bolton’s company was just starting out, and in her father’s eyes, he was just a poor kid.

Now, Shifei’s total assets had already surpassed Aaron Carter’s company, but Ethan Bolton was still the same as before—humble, playing dumb, and acting silly in front of her father.

“Ethan.” Ryan Carter couldn’t help but call out to him.

“Hmm?” Ethan Bolton walked over, then suddenly stopped in his tracks, swaying a little on the spot.
