Chapter 95

Li Qingran curled up, biting her lower lip in silence.

Did she not know that her master would avoid her?

After all, she could feel his almost imperceptible gaze even while taking a bath...

Just as the two of them were at a loss, their minds racing in different directions, a medium-sized Spirit Gathering Array suddenly appeared in the small room.

“While out and about, under harsh conditions, don’t forget to cultivate!” A serious voice echoed in the air.

As the words fell, the Spirit Gathering Array activated.

In her bed, Li Qingran let out a soft whimper, like a mosquito buzzing.

Yue Qianchi felt a chill run down his spine as he looked despairingly at the Spirit Gathering Array that had formed around the bed.

His anxious heart finally sank.

“Are they going to sleep already? So early?”

In the taxi, Chen Huai'an glanced at the game.

By the time he logged in, Li Qingran and Yue Qianchi were already lying in bed.

“Must be because the spiritual energy is thin in the mortal realm. Let’s set up a medium-sized Spirit Gathering Array so they can cultivate while resting,” he thought.

With that, Chen Huai'an charged six hours’ worth of the medium-sized Spirit Gathering Array.

Now, Li Qingran had reached the peak of Qi Refinement, but her survival rate was still only five percent. She needed to speed up her cultivation; she couldn’t afford to slack off just because she visited Lingxi Valley.

“I’m such a good master!” Chen Huai'an couldn’t help but feel a bit smug.

Seeing that he had arrived at the entrance of Longteng Internet Café, he logged out of the game.

Chapter 101: Making Money!

Longteng Internet Café looked no different from an ordinary internet café.

In fact, it was one of those that didn’t do much business.

The dim lighting and faint smell of smoke created an atmosphere that suggested closing time was not far off, with only a handful of computers lit up.

Chen Huai'an looked down at Lin Lingling beside him and asked, “Didn’t you say that the bearded guy would come to meet us?”

“Uh…” Lin Lingling paused for a moment, then stepped forward, “He might have been held up by something. It’s not a big deal; I’ll take you upstairs.”

As they climbed the stairs from the back of the café to the fourth floor, a strong smell of blood hit them.

Lin Lingling’s pupils constricted, and she bit her lip. “Something’s gone wrong.”

The two hurried through the corridor to the innermost room, where the lights were on.

The stench of blood was even stronger. Inside, three sofas were haphazardly arranged, with several people sitting on them. In the center was the bearded guy, deeply engrossed in smoking, while on the floor in front of them lay two mangled corpses.

“BOSS!” Lin Lingling called out, pulling Chen Huai'an into the room.

She quickly glanced at the bodies, her pupils narrowing, and her body shuddered.

The two corpses were in a horrific state, their heads punctured by something, their brains gone, leaving only emptiness. Their faces were twisted in agony, blood oozing from their seven orifices, their eyes rolled back to reveal only the whites.

Two civilian demon-slaying corpses, both white-level.

One of them was quite young, and Lin Lingling had a vague memory of him.

She recalled he was a programmer, and they had collaborated on a task before.

On the night they submitted the task materials, he had inexplicably confessed his feelings to her, saying he liked her and wanted to start a soccer team with her, completely disregarding the fact that she was still underage and the significant age gap. It was quite ridiculous!

But seeing him dead here, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of sorrow.

“You two arrived just in time,” the bearded guy extinguished his cigarette, his face darkening. “The situation is extremely urgent. A monster has already set its sights on us. These two corpses are the victims of its hunting, and it even threw them here to show off. It clearly doesn’t take our Demon-Slaying Division seriously!”

“The monster is too rampant!”

“Indeed, once I master the Breathing Technique, I’ll make those monsters pay!”

“BOSS, just tell us what to do!”

The demon slayers present were all filled with righteous indignation.

Chen Huai'an scanned each person, nodding to himself.

No wonder they were the demon slayers, walking on the edge of a knife to protect the world.

At least for now, they still had plenty of spirit.

Next, they would discuss and analyze the monster’s information together, find its hiding place, and strike as one to crush it to dust, showcasing the strength of the Demon-Slaying Division and the determination of the demon slayers, further enhancing everyone’s cohesion, right?

Lin Lingling’s blood was also stirred up; her face taut, she clenched her fists and said solemnly, “BOSS! Just tell us what to do, we’re all in!”

“We…”

The bearded guy crossed his hands on the table, his eyelids drooping as he looked at everyone, and said in a deep voice:

“We… run—! Away—!”

Chen Huai'an: “???”

Lin Lingling: “…”

“Truly the chief, what insight!”

“Yeah, this strategic retreat is crucial; the monster definitely won’t see it coming!”

“BOSS, this can’t be right!” Lin Lingling’s eyes widened in disbelief. “The monster is already attacking us, and we’re just going to run away? We’re demon slayers! Besides, you can run from the monk but not the temple; we can’t let that monster chase us for the rest of our lives!”

The bearded guy sighed as he looked at the furious girl before him.

Did he not understand that Lin Lingling was right?

But that monster was no joke. He had spent the entire night at the Demon-Slaying Division, yet the monster had managed to sneak in and dump the bodies in his office. So, in a sense, while he was sleeping, that monster could have easily killed him without him knowing.

Among the demon slayers present, he was the strongest.

If he wasn’t a match for it, what chance did these white-level slayers have?

Now that he had the Breathing Technique, he could definitely keep these willing resurrectors safe for a while. As long as they all improved their strength a bit more, monsters like that wouldn’t be a problem anymore.

“Lin Lingling, I understand what you’re saying, but…”

“Understand what?” A sharp voice rang out from above, accompanied by a manic, eerie laughter. “Hehe, as demon slayers, you fear monsters? Your first thought when facing a monster is to run? How ridiculous!”

“Who?!” The bearded guy’s heart raced.

Everyone looked up.

They saw that the ceiling had somehow become covered in black spider webs.

A spider the size of a conference table was perched in the center of the web, its back to them. It twisted its head with a creaking sound, revealing a pale human face. This face looked more like a mask, with red paint outlining its eyes, nose, and a grotesque smile that stretched to its ears.

“A monster!” The demon slayers drew their weapons in unison.

Some had guns, while others, like Lin Lingling, wielded cold weapons.

But judging by their panicked expressions, it was clear they were quite afraid of the human-faced spider.

“It’s not a monster; it’s a rogue!” The bearded guy’s expression hardened as he opened a nearby cabinet, pulling out an exaggerated shotgun and a machete. He fired a shot at the human-faced spider, then shouted to the others while it was distracted by its web defense:

“This is a soldier-level rogue; you’re no match for it! Call for backup from headquarters, I’ll hold it off!”

“Ha! You think you can hold me off?”

The rogue leaped down from the ceiling, crashing into the bearded guy and collapsing a wall.

Amid the dust, the bearded guy’s pained scream echoed.

“Chen Huai'an, we need to go!”

Lin Lingling grabbed Chen Huai'an’s hand and ran.

A soldier-level rogue was not something they could handle.

Having entered the Demon-Slaying Division, she had seen enough death and was no longer the naive rookie who charged at monsters without a second thought.

The other demon slayers also began to retreat.

It wasn’t that they lacked compassion; it was just that calling for backup was the best choice right now. Charging in would only complicate things for the bearded guy.

For now, they could only hope their leader could hold on.

“What was that just now?”

In an empty alley, Chen Huai'an looked at Lin Lingling, who was leaning against the wall, panting heavily.

“A rogue.” Lin Lingling took a breath, glancing sideways at Chen Huai'an, who seemed unfazed. “Strictly speaking, it’s not a monster. Rogues come in two types: one is a resurrector who turns against society after gaining powers, and the other is a resurrector whose powers are twisted and backfire, ultimately becoming a creature that’s neither human nor ghost.”

“So that one just now was the latter?”

“Exactly.”
