Chapter 13

Edward Morgan had no idea about Lily Harris's winding train of thought, and said calmly, "Miss Harris, please don't misunderstand. I... I did intentionally seek you out, because I have a request to make of you."

He raised his hand slightly, and three impressive chairs appeared in the desolate mountains—not chairs stored in a storage artifact, but three transparent chairs formed from the mountain's spiritual energy. Cultivators in the Great Ascension stage can communicate with heaven and earth at will; at this stage, they rarely use magical tools, as they can condense spiritual energy into weapons to attack others.

Edward Morgan made a "please" gesture to Lily Harris. Seeing Lily Harris sit nervously on the spiritual chair, he sat down as well.

Normally, he would sit first, but facing Lily Harris, he had to show the respect due to a half-master, so Edward Morgan then invited Samuel Harris.

Of the three chairs, one was for James Walker, but James Walker did not sit, instead standing quietly behind Edward Morgan without expressing any opinion.

Facing Lily Harris, Edward Morgan did not force her. He said to the heroine, "Miss Harris, you should be able to see that with our abilities, there is no need to trouble a mortal. Just now, I merely saw you walking downstairs and casually tossed an object down to attract your attention."

Lily Harris was very angry, but the person before her was too powerful. She clenched her fists tightly, restraining herself as she said, "That was a person, not an object!"

"Is that so?" Edward Morgan flicked his finger, and an ant crawling on the ground was blown by the wind onto Lily Harris's knee. He said indifferently, "What difference is there between the two?"

The little ant struggled to crawl on Lily Harris's leg. She cupped the ant in one hand and placed it on the ground, her voice trembling, "It's not the same. Besides, even ants are innocent."

"Miss Harris, have you ever eaten meat?" Edward Morgan asked.

Lily Harris didn't answer. Only after building the foundation can cultivators live without eating, relying on absorbing spiritual energy from heaven and earth for sustenance. She built her foundation a year ago; for the first seventeen years, she grew up eating ordinary food.

"That's different," she could only shake her head and say.

"You are a cultivator, so you should understand that all things in the world follow different paths but reach the same end. All things have spirit, and are no different from people," Edward Morgan said. "We cultivators absorb the spiritual energy of heaven and earth—do you know how many living beings that energy can nurture? The Shangqing Sect has occupied the Spirit Mountain for many years. Do you know how many rare and exotic beasts and innate spiritual beings once lived on this mountain in ancient times? Why are there none left now? Because the human race cultivates here, seizing their spiritual energy, and the Spirit Mountain can no longer nurture innate spiritual beings."

Lily Harris had not cultivated for long and found it hard to refute Edward Morgan's words. Her mind was in turmoil, feeling as if all her previous beliefs had been overturned. Her true energy became uncontrollable, and her internal organs felt as if they were being twisted by knives.

Edward Morgan could not just watch a half-master fall into qi deviation, so he changed the subject: "You need not blame yourself for this. The human race is now the leader of all living things, but this is due to fate. In the ancient era of gods and demons, humans suffered greatly. Any bird, beast, spiritual flower, or exotic plant could eat humans, use their bodies to refine artifacts, or absorb their souls. Now that humans are on top, it is merely the turning of fortune."

After these words, Lily Harris's expression improved a little. The confusion that had long troubled her seemed to have found an answer, and her state of mind became much broader.

She closed her eyes and pondered quietly. In less than a quarter of an hour, she opened her eyes, stood up, and cupped her fists to Edward Morgan: "Thank you, master, for your guidance."

Edward Morgan waved his hand: "It's nothing. I was just casually sharing some of my understanding of the Dao. The reason you can comprehend it is because you are naturally suited to cultivate the emotionless path. In your future cultivation, do not stray from the right path."

Lily Harris had just grasped a bit of the ultimate principle of heaven and earth. Her gaze was now completely different from that of the innocent girl she had been moments ago. The eyes beneath her long lashes were both merciless and compassionate, her gaze seeming to fall on the ant, yet as if seeing nothing at all.

Edward Morgan was very satisfied with this, but in the next instant, Lily Harris's eyes lit up again. She came back to herself and said, "Senior brother and Miss Cooper are still waiting for the medicine!"

The starlight returned to her bright eyes, and she once again looked like a girl in love.

"Don't worry, that woman will be fine," Edward Morgan said. "I came to find you because I need your help to obtain something."

"Senior just guided my cultivation; Lily Harris is deeply grateful. If I can help you, I will do so without hesitation," Lily Harris said.

"I need a spiritual item, the Snowfire, to heal an old injury for this subordinate... friend of mine," Edward Morgan said.

James Walker looked slightly surprised and glanced at Edward Morgan.

"I've heard my master mention the Snowfire. It grows in the boundless ice fields, its whereabouts unknown. For cultivators below the Golden Core stage, entering the boundless ice fields is almost certain death. Senior, your cultivation is profound—can Harris really help you?" Lily Harris asked in confusion.

Edward Morgan said, "The Snowfire is your destined opportunity. No one else can touch it; only with your permission can I use it. Everything is predestined—not just anyone with great power can obtain it."

In fact, as long as he followed Lily Harris, he could snatch the spiritual medicine from her after she obtained it. That was the way of the demonic sect. But Edward Morgan could not steal from a half-master, nor was he willing to seize another's opportunity in such a base manner. He wanted to make an exchange.

"I can help you become a god, help you cultivate, help you get what you want—in exchange for the Snowfire."
