It seemed he had rushed over from another event. Dressed in a gray-green windbreaker, James Turner hurried in and greeted the staff around him.
“Sorry, I’m late.”
The oversized hood covered half his face, revealing only a pair of deeply set eyes.
“James is here!”
He was well-liked and had often appeared on this TV station’s programs before; the staff coming and going all liked him. James Turner was just a twenty-year-old young man, and to most people in this circle, he was like a younger brother. It was just that his usually powerful aura made people tend to overlook his age.
The makeup artist pulled him aside to do his hair and makeup. Last night, he’d been shooting for a magazine until the early hours, and this morning he’d rushed to a movie promotion. Severely sleep-deprived, James Turner closed his eyes and let the stylist blow-dry his hair, catching up on some sleep in the process.
“Xiao Heng, your outfit looks great today.” The makeup artist smiled gently.
Lack of rest made his brain react a beat slower. James Turner opened his eyes and answered honestly, “This set is sponsored by the brand.”
“Pfft.” The makeup artist laughed and sprayed him with setting spray. “You’re still so straightforward.”
Seeing he was really not in good shape, assistant Little Cooper quickly went to buy an iced coffee. Just as James Turner’s styling was finished and he was waiting to shoot the promo, he took the coffee, thanked her, and walked out of the makeup room.
He bypassed the studio area and came to the semi-open lounge. James Turner took two sips of coffee and set it aside. Stretching out his long legs, he sat down on a nearby sofa, tilted his head to look around, his gaze sweeping the room—he looked at everything except, very deliberately, the very center under the spotlight where William Carter sat.
“OK, William, you’re good!”
William Carter thanked them, his eyes glancing toward James Turner. The other was curled up on the sofa, the collar of his windbreaker pulled up to cover half his face, revealing only a pair of beautiful eyes and tightly furrowed brows, clearly spelling out the words “not happy.”
Why is this person so funny, like he was dragged here against his will? William Carter walked over. If he hadn’t, it would have been fine, but as soon as he got close, he could clearly see the other’s brows furrow even deeper.
Don’t want me to sit here? William Carter raised an eyebrow, then sat right next to James Turner without hesitation, even turning his head to smile at him, repeating the exact words from their last unexpected meeting.
“What a coincidence.” William Carter’s eyes narrowed. Even though the person in front of him knew who he was, he still looked completely harmless. “You’re on this show too?”
James Turner rolled his eyes upward in exasperation, shifted a little to the side, thinking to himself, You’re still pretending with me here.
Though he understood, he didn’t say a word, turning his head away, his whole demeanor cold, acting as if he didn’t see William Carter.
Getting a cold shoulder, William Carter didn’t feel awkward at all. On the contrary, he found James Turner even more interesting than he’d imagined. He lounged on the sofa with a smile, his long legs wrapped in suit pants stretched out.
James Turner not only didn’t want to see him, he didn’t want to hear him speak either. He pulled out his phone and earphones from his windbreaker, about to put them in when he heard William Carter speak.
“If you treat your fans like this, be careful I stop being a fan and start criticizing you.”
As soon as he finished, he saw James Turner’s hand holding the earphones pause. After hesitating for a moment, he finally turned slightly to look at him.
The word “fan” really worked. William Carter laughed to himself.
The two of them stared at each other awkwardly for a moment before James Turner finally spoke. Probably out of respect, he even unzipped the collar of his jacket as he spoke, saying seriously, “It’s not about you. I just don’t like people who aren’t faithful in relationships.”
William Carter was stunned for half a second.
Where did this little angel come from? With a face that looks like he was born to play an Alpha bad boy, but at heart he’s so honest.
He smiled, the curve of his lips like a sly cat. “How do you know I’m not faithful in relationships?”
James Turner’s brows didn’t relax at all, instead furrowing even deeper. He remembered running into William Carter in the restroom that day—this person, who looked completely harmless, had said such vicious things.
Seeing the complicated expression on James Turner’s face, William Carter suddenly became serious, a sincere light in his eyes. He earnestly defended himself, “Really, I’m not like you think. You misunderstood. What happened that day was complicated, not something I can explain in a few words. That person wasn’t my partner—he’s been pestering me for a long time, and besides me, he’s been messing around with others too. I was really pushed to my limit, so I said those harsh words to scare him off. Someone like me, who looks easy to bully, if I don’t say something tough, it’s just too easy to get taken advantage of.” He pressed his lips together, his expression a bit dejected and aggrieved, raising his hand to touch the tip of his nose. “I’ve really been having a hard time these past few days. I’m the one being harassed, but my own idol thinks I’m a scumbag.”
The word “idol” worked wonders. James Turner’s expression clearly softened a lot. William Carter sighed, his eyes innocent and aggrieved. “I swear to you, I’m definitely not the kind of person who’s unfaithful in relationships.”
