William Carter saw this and simply let his smile fade a little, saying calmly, “You dragged me into this world against my will, so you should have expected these consequences.”
008 lowered its head and pressed its lips together.
008 was truly frustrated, but as a system full of humanitarian sentiment, it was already in the wrong and had no way out.
After a long while, it gritted its teeth, scratched its head, and with an extremely unpleasant expression, made a concession: “I... I need to request instructions from the main world about this. You, you’d better not act rashly for now... Even if you appear by Ethan Brooks’s side, don’t reveal your identity.”
William Carter got the answer he wanted and smiled, “No problem. It’s not like there’s only one young master named William Carter in City A.”
008 didn’t want to deal with William Carter at all now, so it turned into a wisp of smoke and returned to William Carter’s mind.
William Carter was stunned. “Hey, you haven’t told me Ethan Brooks’s address yet!”
“I don’t know!”
What answered him was 008’s furious roar.
William Carter: “……”
So, why did he even call it out?
He got no information, and instead ended up with a bunch of restrictions.
What a useless system!
It was good for nothing except making things harder for him.
William Carter sighed, lay back down, and went to sleep.
Looking for someone in such a big city as Jingcheng seemed like searching for a needle in a haystack, but for William Carter, it wasn’t impossible. After all, he had an uncle who was the mayor, and a bunch of cousins eager to get on his good side. But before he even needed to use these connections, by a twist of fate, he met Ethan Brooks.
On his third day in Jingcheng.
Grandma Foster was worried he’d get bored staying at home, so she kept trying different ways to persuade him to go out for a walk.
Unable to resist his grandmother’s urging, William Carter got into his cousin Charles Foster’s car.
Charles Foster’s sports car was wine red, just as flashy as he was.
He took off his sunglasses, revealing a pair of mischievous, almond-shaped eyes, and looked at William Carter in the passenger seat. “Isn’t my grandma a pain?”
William Carter smiled. “She’s alright.”
“What do you mean, alright?” Charles Foster chuckled softly and stepped on the gas. “She’s got so many rules here, it’s suffocating. Every time I come, I can barely stand the first two days, and by the third day she’s scolding me from morning till night.”
William Carter just smiled without saying more. He actually quite liked Grandma Foster’s cooking, and had been enjoying himself these past few days.
Charles Foster kept his eyes on the road, then suddenly curled his lips into a smile. “Cousin, how old are you?”
William Carter was taken aback. “Fifteen.”
Charles Foster grinned even wider and winked at him playfully. “That’s old enough. Let your cousin take you somewhere fun, want to go?”
Charles Foster was his eldest uncle’s only son, the mayor’s kid, and a real young master in all of Jingcheng. If he said it was fun, it was bound to be something out of the ordinary.
William Carter was a little tempted, but still reminded him, “Cousin, I can’t drink.”
Charles Foster laughed. “Don’t worry, I won’t let you touch a drop. If anything happens to you, forget my grandma—even my hot-tempered aunt would fly over from City A and skin me alive.”
William Carter couldn’t help but laugh.
Charles Foster said, “Consider it an apology for not picking you up three days ago. I’ll take you somewhere fun. Just nod, okay?”
William Carter had nothing else to do anyway, so he simply agreed.
Charles Foster smiled. “Alright, this is our little secret. You better have my back and not sell me out.”
William Carter chuckled. “I won’t tell Grandma.”
With William Carter’s promise, Charles Foster finally turned the car and headed south.
Although Charles Foster liked to have fun and was pretty wild, William Carter was his cousin, still underage and pure-hearted, so of course he wouldn’t take him anywhere inappropriate. Otherwise, what would that make him?
Charles Foster brought William Carter to a high-end club called “Lingshui.” After entering, he showed his membership card at the front desk, and a staff member led them inside.
They passed through a grand, luxurious hall, walked down a pitch-black corridor, and then emerged into a traditional-style courtyard. Red wooden corridors were built over the pond, and looking down, you could see koi swimming in the clear water.
Charles Foster said, “Cousin, let me introduce you to a few of my friends.”
William Carter nodded.
Charles Foster’s friends were all well-known rich kids in Jingcheng, and today was actually just a private little get-together.
Normally, these gatherings were wild parties, but with William Carter there, none of the guys had the nerve to call in any hostesses.
So it ended up just like a regular KTV session. A few people fought over the mic, their terrible singing assaulting everyone’s ears.
Charles Foster was exasperated. “Are you guys really going to torture my cousin’s ears like this?”
Someone snickered, “Handing the mic to you would be the real disaster.”
Charles Foster slammed the table in mock anger. “Who are you looking down on!”
“……”
Sitting on the sofa drinking water, William Carter finally understood.
He’d been tricked by his cousin. All that mysterious talk, and he’d just been lured here. In reality, Charles Foster couldn’t get out of seeing his grandma, but didn’t want to ditch his friends, so he put on an act and brought William Carter along.
He’d fallen for it.
Unable to stand this group of tone-deaf guys, William Carter couldn’t take it anymore and went outside. “Cousin, I’m going to get some air.”
Charles Foster was already having a blast and just waved him off. “Alright, just don’t wander off.”
