Claire Harris took a few steps back and slammed his fist hard against the wall!
Black hair hung over his forehead, veins bulging faintly at his temples, his whole body radiating intense hostility.
“Are we doomed?! There’s a black wall behind us, and zombies outside!” Emily Thompson’s eyes were red. “It’s happening so fast... There are so many out there, what do we do?!”
Outside, zombies surged like a tide, wave after wave, densely packed, with no chance of forcing a way out. Once bitten, a person would mutate in almost ten seconds—David Ford was a perfect example.
The iron grating of the convenience store didn’t look like it would hold much longer either.
As soon as those words were spoken, silence fell over the convenience store.
The situation was hundreds of times more dangerous than expected. It was a dead end from the start—no one had imagined it would turn out like this!
Ryan Bennett stood in the corner, blood dripping from the hair by his ear.
David Ford’s sudden mutation was too horrifying, making everyone fearful.
The iron grating clanged loudly as more and more zombies gathered outside the convenience store.
Listening to those snarls so close by, despair weighed on everyone’s hearts in the cramped store.
But then Claire Harris said, “Staying here is just waiting to die. It’s not time to give up yet!”
Ryan Bennett looked up.
He saw Claire Harris pick up the Shenmian from the floor, not glancing at the teammates outside whose eyes were clouded, who had once fought by his side.
Knowing everyone was counting on him, Claire Harris gritted his teeth and gave a deep order: “See if there’s any other exit!”
The teammates sprang into action and soon returned to their original spots.
“Captain Harris! Nothing found!”
“There’s a window in the restroom, but it’s only thirty centimeters wide—we can’t get through.”
“There should be an exit in the storeroom.”
Ryan Bennett’s ears were still ringing from the close-range gunshot, his eardrums aching, so his tone sounded a bit odd.
Having witnessed a teammate’s death, Ryan Bennett’s bloodstained, fair face was a little pale: “But I’m not sure what’s outside the exit—it could be even worse.”
Everyone was a bit surprised.
This newly joined Consultant Bennett had just shown his skills at the door. Even though he now looked as fragile as a battered hothouse flower, everyone couldn’t help but recall the row of zombies that had fallen under his gun.
Eric Morgan: “I’ve already checked—all four sides of the storeroom are walls!”
Ryan Bennett said, “No, that’s not right. I remember the layout of these buildings!”
Claire Harris blurted out, “You’ve been here before?”
No, Claire Harris quickly dismissed that thought. They had just arrived at this so-called PU-31 and didn’t even know what this place was—Ryan Bennett couldn’t have been here before.
Ryan Bennett explained, “No! On our way here, I saw the window layout of this row of buildings. This is a commercial area, and the buildings all have fixed exterior requirements, so every ground-floor shop is exactly the same. That means the storeroom must have an exit.”
Someone couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”
Ryan Bennett nodded. “I’m sure.”
Everyone quickly went to the wall with the window.
If you don’t have a good sense of direction, it’s hard to tell where you are in an unfamiliar space.
But in Ryan Bennett’s mind, it was as if there was a living 3D blueprint. He pointed at a wall and said quickly, “There’s a window here about 120 centimeters high and 80 centimeters wide. Since this was planned as a storeroom for the convenience store, for anti-theft and moisture-proofing, it was probably sealed up. The owner likely kept a fake window without changing the building’s exterior.”
Everyone was skeptical—could someone really remember everything they saw on the way without making a mistake?
Claire Harris had regained his composure and knocked on that wall.
Time was tight. After confirming it was a thin brick wall, Claire Harris asked, “What’s behind the wall?!”
From his eyes, Ryan Bennett saw a hint of trust. He calmly repeated, “The back alley. I can’t be sure what’s in the alley.”
That was enough for Claire Harris to decide without hesitation: “Blow it open!”
No sooner said than done.
Everyone backed away. Helen Ford used a submachine gun, blasting the wall together with Claire Harris.
The wall burst open, daylight streaming into the storeroom. Sure enough, just as Ryan Bennett had said, there was a back alley outside.
“Boom—”
A huge crash sounded outside the storeroom!!
In the blink of an eye, the iron grating, unable to bear the weight, finally collapsed with a crash! Countless frenzied zombies poured into the store, the chaotic, violent footsteps and the sound of shelves toppling like the death knell of the Grim Reaper!
“Hurry, hurry, hurry!!”
“You go first!!”
The chance was right in front of them, but the storeroom door was just a thin wooden board, quickly warped by the pressure of the zombies.
William Cooper braced his back against it, using his body as a shield to barely hold it, shouting, “Go!”
Emily Thompson followed Eric Morgan, quickly crawling out through the window they’d just blasted open in the wall.
But soon, the flimsy storeroom door crashed to the ground, and the zombies rushed in, trampling over each other. William Cooper didn’t have time to dodge and was instantly overwhelmed by zombies!
Gunshots rang out, blood splattering everywhere.
On the verge of collapse, Helen Ford’s eyes turned red: “Damn it!! I’ll kill you all!!”
