Chapter 20

Helen Grant pressed and held the newly downloaded system app on the phone, but the uninstall option didn’t appear, nor was it found in the app management section of the system settings.

The shameless system had disabled the uninstall function on the phone, constantly reminding Helen Grant of unfinished tasks.

Helen Grant bit down hard on the index finger of his right hand, drawing blood, and let a drop fall onto the phone screen, right on the app.

This time, when he pressed and held the app again, the uninstall option finally appeared. Helen Grant tapped uninstall, and the system prompted: If you do not complete the task within 24 hours, the identity of Passer 001 will be exposed. Please consider carefully whether to uninstall this system, Passer 001.

“Not considering it,” Helen Grant said firmly.

After the system was uninstalled, Helen Grant clearly felt his power grow even stronger. In order to uninstall the app, he had forcibly unsealed an ability, causing the power he had just gotten used to to surge once more.

Helen Grant stood in front of the mirror, extended his injured index finger, blood still staining it, and forcefully smeared the bloodstain onto the mirror.

Laura Hayes was being interrogated by the guardians. He had just accidentally revealed his identity and mentioned the existence of a final boss in this world. He felt certain he was doomed this time.

The system did not allow challengers to reveal anything about it; once leaked, the challenger would definitely self-destruct.

After carelessly revealing information about the final boss, Laura Hayes hugged his arms in terror and cried, “Don’t ask me anything else, I’m going to self-destruct.”

The older generation of guardians, including Director Miller, were experienced. They knew that once a destroyer self-destructed, the power was immense. Hearing Laura Hayes say this, everyone immediately evacuated the secure room and observed Laura Hayes through surveillance.

One minute, two minutes... half an hour passed, and Laura Hayes did not self-destruct. He curled up, hugging his arms as if dead, looking pitiful.

Eric Webb couldn’t help but say, “Is he really a destroyer? Maybe he’s just a chuunibyou patient? Did we catch the wrong person?”

All the training they’d received said destroyers were terrifying and extremely dangerous, but this one just seemed so pitiful.

“I’m not so sure either. He seems different from previous destroyers.” Even Director Miller was a bit puzzled. “He just revealed that there’s a terrifying destroyer hidden in this world, but didn’t self-destruct like before... Could he really just be a delusional ordinary person?”

“How is that possible!” Brian Clark raised his scarred hand. “When I caught him, my hand was injured this badly in the spatial zone—do you think he bit me with his teeth?”

“That looks more like a cigarette burn,” Eric Webb examined it closely and said.

“Abilities trapped in my space are weakened tenfold. Multiply this power by ten and it’s like a firearm.” Brian Clark rubbed his hand.

Seeing that Laura Hayes hadn’t self-destructed for a long time, the guardians cautiously returned to the room. When Laura Hayes saw them come back and realized he was still alive, he thought about how much torture he might have to endure and felt scared.

Just as Brian Clark and the others entered, Laura Hayes looked up and suddenly saw a mirror floating in the air before him, with words written in blood on it: “Follow my instructions and you’ll survive.”

Laura Hayes thought he was hallucinating. He rubbed his eyes and saw the words change to: “Pretend you can’t see the mirror and just do as I say, or I’ll kill you.”

At the end of the sentence was a blood-red dagger, its tip pointing at Laura Hayes.

Laura Hayes gasped sharply. Facing the guardians interrogating him, he wiped his tears and, following the bloody instructions, said, “I’ll talk, I’ll tell you everything.”

Director Miller and the other senior guardians exchanged glances. It was the first time they’d seen a destroyer so cooperative, and they couldn’t help but feel wary.

There wasn’t enough space on the mirror for many words, so Helen Grant could only write the general idea, leaving the rest for Laura Hayes to improvise.

Fortunately, Laura Hayes was good at making up stories. Combining his own situation with the hints from the mirror, he obediently began to explain: “About seven days ago, a new app appeared on my phone. I couldn’t uninstall it. It told me I had to complete a task, and if I failed, I’d be erased.”

At this point, Laura Hayes shuddered inside. Saying this was basically leaking the system’s secret, and he should self-destruct right after.

But the bloody words on the mirror reassured him, and Laura Hayes tried to stay calm—unexpectedly, he really didn’t die.

Director Miller took Laura Hayes’s phone, unlocked it with facial recognition, and searched through it. “I don’t see the app you mentioned.”

“I’ve tried before—others can’t see it. It’s like it’s my own secret,” Laura Hayes said. “This past week, I’ve been hiding at home studying my phone, and found out what the system said was true. This morning, I exchanged for an interdimensional stomach—I can eat a ton and never get fat.”

The bloody words instructed Laura Hayes to talk about some real experiences after getting the system, mixing truth and lies. Remembering he was caught in a mall, Laura Hayes recounted what he’d done there with the system: “I also used the system to get basketball skills, but they were time-limited and expired after an hour. And when you caught me in the spatial zone, I tried to escape using things like a laser cannon, but it all failed.”
