The remnant soul of Tianhe nodded. "Yes."
"Please, esteemed one, share your wisdom!" Zheng Fa exclaimed, surprised by how smoothly things were going.
"Well, I can't make that decision alone."
"Can't make that decision?" Zheng Fa was taken aback.
"I listen to them," the remnant soul of Tianhe said, pointing toward the direction of the Tianhe Sect.
To his surprise, he was indicating the disciples of Tianhe.
Zheng Fa felt even more puzzled. Was it really that democratic?
Sensing his confusion, the remnant soul of Tianhe chuckled softly. "Come with me."
Zheng Fa, still bewildered, followed closely behind as they made their way to the Tianhe Sect.
As they took a few steps, the scenery around them suddenly shifted.
Though they were still at the foot of the Tianhe Sect, the air was thick with a sense of foreboding.
In the sky, brilliant lights flickered as swords of immortals began to gather.
"This was back when our Tianhe Sect had just begun to rise. My strength was far from invincible, but the uniqueness of Tianhe Fa had already been revealed," the remnant soul of Tianhe explained. "When the Holy Dynasty invaded, the four sects deliberately delayed their support. That was nearly the most critical moment for the Tianhe Sect."
The Holy Dynasty was the force of the Demon Ancestor and a formidable enemy of the Tianhe Sect.
Zheng Fa could easily imagine the perilous situation.
Though he was now stronger than most loose immortals, the pressure on Jiushan Sect was still immense.
"I was held back by the Demon Ancestor," the remnant soul of Tianhe said in a calm tone, but the danger was palpable, and Zheng Fa understood it completely. "We could only rely on these disciples to protect the Tianhe Sect."
He watched the disciples on the flying swords; they said nothing, merely gathering in silence.
After a brief moment, without any command, they took to the skies, as if they shared a silent understanding.
A myriad of swords soared from Tianhe, their energy sweeping across the heavens.
Zheng Fa felt a wave of melancholy wash over him as he witnessed this scene.
The remnant soul of Tianhe remained silent.
The two continued forward, seemingly traversing through time and space, as the light and shadows around them shifted once more.
Some disciples returned.
When they had left, there were over ten thousand of them.
Now, it seemed there were barely four thousand.
These disciples had no idea how many battles they had fought; their auras were depleted, each one bearing wounds, and the flying swords at their waists were stained with blood, the air thick with the stench of iron.
Their eyes appeared vacant, searching for someone among each other.
But they found no one and said nothing.
Zheng Fa could only watch in silence.
The remnant soul of Tianhe led Zheng Fa onward, past this desolation, until voices reached their ears.
He saw another Tianhe elder.
This elder was surrounded by thousands of disciples, forming a circle.
Within the circle, swords stood upright, their hilts embedded in the ground, their tips pointing toward the sky.
One disciple sang a loud, ancient ballad that Zheng Fa had never heard before, yet its sorrowful tone stirred something deep within him.
Another disciple remained silent, plucking the strings of his sword, producing a resonant sound that hinted at suppressed anger.
Many others, like the Tianhe elder, simply stared blankly at the forest of swords.
Suddenly, a disciple turned to the Tianhe elder and asked, "Master, what will the future of Tianhe, the future of Xuanwei, look like?"
The Tianhe elder remained silent.
"If these senior brothers could see the future, would they have regrets?"
The crowd gradually fell silent, their gazes turning toward the Tianhe elder among them.
But the elder turned his head, looking in Zheng Fa's direction.
Thousands of eyes followed suit, all fixated on Zheng Fa, as if seeking an answer.
The remnant soul of Tianhe had vanished.
In that moment, Zheng Fa suddenly understood what the remnant soul meant by "listening to them."
He and these souls of Tianhe had waited for hundreds of thousands of years for an answer.
